Driving to AK, MGM or Epcot..

It looks like we'll be getting a rental car this trip, to make it easier to visit other resorts/restaurants (staying on-site). From reading this board, I know we will take a Disney bus to MK. But we are considering driving to some of the other parks - I can't believe I've never done this before! Anyway, in considering the possible time savings, I am wondering how quickly cars move through the entrance gates. Do resort guests with free parking have a different gate to get through quicker? What time do the gates open?

All cars enter the same gates at MGM, Epcot and AK regardless of where you are staying, however those staying onsite have their parking pass in the windshield and are waved through. We entered the MGM and Epcot lots about 45 minutes to 1 hour prior to opening without problem.
