We are staying in SSR but want to have breakfast at GF one morning then head off shopping to the malls! is this ok to do so or do we have to park at Magic Kingdom and get the monorail/bus over

warning, this is a can of worms, don't open it :)

People get heated when it comes to parking at resorts

The "rule" is 3 hours parking.
If by "shopping" you mean shopping at GF, then it's ok. If it means going over to MK, Epcot and touring the monorail resorts, then you take the risk of having your car be towed away

Since you stay on property and parking is free for you, I guess you'd be better off parking at TTC and monorailing over to GF
This way you'll have plenty of time to do whatever you need to do without worrying about anything.

Oh no I meant heading to the malls I wanted to drive so it saved us all that time getting the bus to and from Grand Floridian!

You can drive to any of the resorts for a meal, shopping or just to look around. You will have to show ID on entry and tell them you have a breakfast reservation.
You don't even have to be staying onsite, offsite visitors are welcome to drive to any resort to look around/dine/shop.

Only restrictions are busy times (Xmas) they struggle for parking spaces on the monorail route, even then I have had no problems. Boardwalk & Y&B club also have restrictions around Food & wine festival.
Only twice have I had issues, once trying to visit Boardwalk & another at POFQ. Both security guards had no idea what they were doing.

Thanks I am sure we have done this before but I just couldnt remember how we went about it! And wasnt sure with it being a monorail resort if they just made you park in TTC.

oh ... right
the way I read it I thought you were asking about parking at GF and then leaving the car there while you went shopping.

as Wayne said, just park at GF it will save you time.
If the guard asks just tell him/her you have an ADR (99% sure he/she won't care and wave you through, the odd 1% will ask you for ID)

Since removing the 3 hour parking pass a couple of years back guards ask for ID every entry now (unless they changed policy again since last August, you never know with Disney:))

I seldom go to moderate or deluxe resorts. So I wouldn't know
1% was a ballpark figure.
I always park at TTC since I plan my monorail resort ADRs with a MK or EPCOT day.
Last february/march we never were asked for ID, wether it be at POP (for check in) or at AKL for ADR or at any other resort we parked at.

Still, it seems there is no rule of thumb at Disney's. On another thread I noticed that, even with DISers who went around the same time as us, there were huge discrepancies in the way guards handled guests at resorts gates.

Anyway, it doesn't change much for tinks_1989 :)

Just leave plenty of time as the self parking is a hike from the main building (or at least it was!)

Sorry I should of explained myself better! It's always a quick one when I'm on my phone!

Self park is a hike at GF, other side of main road. I usually drop everyone off at the entrance then park up. Last year it was lashing it down so after our meal I ran to collect car then went back thru security to collect everyone again.

So how long would it take door to door from SSR to Grand Floridian ?
If we have a reservation at 1900pm at the Grand Floridian what time should we leave from the SSR resort ? Thanks !

Depends if you are wanting to go straight in for the meal or have a look around first. I would leave around 6:15pm, earlier if I wanted to look around.

you can enter any resort if your dinning/shopping/having a look around.disney welcome with open arms,it`s all about money honest.See your staying at SSR is this on points as a dvc member? if so you can pool hop to most resorts.
Your better paking up at GF if your eating closer than using MK and getting monorail.but some people like to ride the monorail and park up in MK
