We are invited to a wedding in October in Malibu Canyon. The wedding will be early afternoon on a Saturday so not prime traffic time. Any idea about how long would it take us to drive from Anaheim to Malibu? What would be the easiest route?

We would love to stay at the VGC if we can get a room at the 7 month window and spend a day or 2 at DL but if the drive to Malibu on the wedding day is too much of a pain we can always stay closer for the night before and after the wedding. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel that isn't going to break the bank in the area?

Thanks!

Unfortunately even though it is a Saturday, definitely expect traffic. As a So. Cal native its one of the wonderful facts of life that we now live with, traffic every day of the week.

Google lists 1hr 15 min w/out traffic, but 2hr 40min with. I'd definitely plan on a minimum of 2hrs for the trip up. I'd also highly recommend checking the traffic before you head out an plan a route from there. The 5 and 405, the most direct routes are also the most heavily traffic'd.

One possible round about way to get to Malibu is to take the 57 to the 210 which becomes the 134 and then the 101. From there you can take one of the canyon roads up and over into Malibu. I don't know how much time that would save, just more keeping you from most of the headache of traffic.

We actually have friends with an upcoming wedding also in Malibu in May. They said all hotels right in town there run at minimum about $250/night. They are recommending their guests say in the valley along the 101 freeway in the Thousand Oaks / Westlake Village area. I'm not as familiar with that area, so I don't have any specific hotel recommendations, but that does give a place to look. Of course even though it is pricey the Malibu coastline is very nice.
