Driving through the Everglades in a convertible - BUGS

I would just like to know if it is sensible to drive through the Everglades in a convertible due to the high content of bugs?

Would this cause a problem?

We've done it in the past and I can't remember being bitten. The car bumper was covered with splattered bugs though (we had stopped for lunch and people were pointing at the car it was that disgusting!)
