We've driven to PHL several times and to Winner once and we'll be using Winner this Oct. The problem is that the route from home to Winner goes through Philly as opposed to the easy drive direct to PHL and when we used Winner last time we were caught in traffic for some time during the daylight hours. Specifically, the route is exit 16 off I476 to I76, OREGON AVE exit, EXIT 347B, toward PASSYUNK AVE, W PASSYUNK AVE becomes ESSINGTON AVE, 6717 ESSINGTON AVE is on the RIGHT, this from Mapquest, we're approaching Philly from the north via the Pa Turnpike.

My question for you Philly veterans is how will traffic on this route be around 4:45 - 5 am? I don't want to build extra time into our trip at that hour if I don't have to, thanks for any info offered.

From my experiences a few years ago, it starts picking up around 6:00 am.......and pretty fierce by 6:30 am.

It might be easier to take the turnpike to Philadelphia Exit to Street Road East (this exit is just off the exit ramp to RT 1 South- stay far right)) and then take I95 South to PHL?

In regards to time, it would depend on what day of the week you are traveling in the Philadelphia area. There is a lot of construction going on for I76 or I95. But this construction is during the week M-F from 8 pm to 5 am.
If you are traveling on Sat or Sun morning you will have no problems.

At any given time, I-76 East towards downtown Phiily and I-95 South towards downtown Philly will have roughly the same amount of traffic. If someone is starting the run from Plymouth Meeting (where the PA Turnpike Northeast Extension comes near the Schuylkill Expresway) at 4:45 a.m., there will be no traffic to speak of. But just an hour or so later, all I can say is ... bring reading material.

Going from the Northeast Extension eastbound on the regular turnpike to the exit near U.S. Route 1, Exit 351 (the former Exit 28) would be way out of the way. There would also be a lot of traffic lights along Street Road on the way to I-95.

For someone coming from the Northeast Extension and going to the airport, the only way I'd ever advise them to make that jog around the city would be if there were horrendous construction on the Schuylkill.

We've driven that route twice early morning going to Winner with no problems. You didn't say what day of the week - our flights were on Saturdays. Now doing that trip in the evening is another matter - we were caught in slow moving traffic for about 30 minutes.

Bill, have you considered going to Philly the nite before and staying at a parksleepfly hotel for the nite? that is what we do. we get a hotel room for just a little more than the weekly parking would be anyway and they keep your car there for the week and you take their shuttle to the airport in the a.m. It lets you start the trip fresh with no traffic headaches.

We did the Sleep 'n Fly out of the Ramada twice before, wifey doesn't sleep well the first night in any place, but she will snooze in the car on the way down.

Thanks to all for the replies, we're going in the wee hours of Wed., 10/14 if that matters.

Hi Bill,

We live in the Lehigh Valley area and also use winner airport parking when we fly out of Philly. Here is the route we take and I am sure you will be fine when traveling during the early hours:

-northeast extension south to mid-county interchange and continue on 476S (the blue route)

-take 95 North to exit 10 (Bartram Ave. - Cargo City)
• Turn left at the 1st traffic light.
• Go 8 traffic lights; make a left on Essington Ave.
• We are 1 mile up on the left hand side, behind Maaco.

It takes us an hour to travel from the Lehigh Valley interchange to Winner airport parking.

Hope that helps!
