So we are driving straight through on the way down this october and I wanted some opinions. We drove before but with stops. We decided the stops based on how many deer were along the highway on route i95.
This time I was planning on doing i75 hoping that the amount of traffic would decrease the number of deer along the highway. Any info regarding the truth of that?
I also thought that there would be more rest stops open all night on i75 for potty breaks. True or false?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaatt??

when we were driving through the mountains there were so many deer hanging around the sides of the highway. We were terrified we would hit one. When one bounded out onto the highway within feet of us we decided it was time to pull off and find a hotel.:duck:

I have driven many times straight through. (never seen any deer).

I-75 has more rest stops and an easier straight through drive.

We often drive straight through (on the way home) we have always gone I-95, there does seem to be quite a large distance between rest stops :( although I have not seen any deer yet °o°

We drove staight more than 15 times, always Septembre, Octobre or November , never saw a deer on I95 but a lot of them on I81 just after the us custums at 1000 Islands.

We will be driving straight through in September for the first time. We are choosing to go the I-75 route because I've heard its an easier drive, there are more rest stops, etc. Everyone I've talked to said they prefer that way. I recommend getting 'Along I-75', it's a book written by a Canadian who makes the drive every year and its got a lot of great information about the drive. For example, what restaurants are where, good tourist places to stop, where to get gas etc.

We have dine the straight through drive from Toronto - Orlando over 10 round trips and have taken both routes. We prefer I75. Easier drive (simple and straight), more rest stops, better service centers open during the middle of the night. Never saw a deer before.
We have done the drive in Jan/Feb/Mar/April/May/July/Aug/Dec and all have been fine.

Our next drive will in in about 60 days (end of August) and planning to take I75. We will be posting along the way. Should be a fun drive.

Good Luck with your Drive.

Love your website!
What time do you usually leave the GTA to drive straight through?

Thanks for visiting the site. Glad you enjoyed our stories and memories.

We have left at various time. We have started the drive at 6am/12pm/2pm/3pm and 4pm. Generally speaking we tend to like the afternoon departures because we would arrive just in time to check into our resort, grab a much needed shower and head out to dinner. We also like the 6am departure too because we get the full day when arriving in Orlando.

When leaving in the afternoon we generally have dinner in Windsor prior to crossing over, Kids would fall asleep at about 10pm, we switch drivers at about 12am. At this point, I would get gas and drive straight through the night till about 4am, stop for a quick snack and gas and continue driving till 6am. Switch drivers, I will then sleep till about 8am, then breakfast.

I would recommend you schedule your start time based on what time you would like to arrive in Orlando. Don't worry too much about the boarder crossing but stick with I75.

Hope this helps. We are actually working on a 24 hour driving post for the blog.

Thanks for the replies. We have decided to stick to I-75 and I bought the book! I want simplicity and ease because it is our first straight through. Plus lots of rest stops as there are 3 of us with tiny bladders.:p

The book really is great! I can't wait to use it on our first trip driving in September.

Hello all,

We have done the drive straight from Toronto to Orlando over 10 times round trip. Here is how we do it.

Hope this helps with your planning. Our next drive will be the last week in August 2014.

Just read you blog, it is amazing, so much details. It is true that what is good for 1 family might not fit for another one, but overal I think you have a very good way of traveling. We have done the driving from Montreal or Ottawa more than 20 times, at first without kids, than with very young kids, true their teenage years, and now it is with no kids again. For us it is a 24 hour drive. It is also true that you learn what goes better for you by doing it a lot of times. So once again nice job on the report ;)

Thanks for taking the time to visit our blog and sharing with us your comments Evelyne. We hope to continue with our drive as long as possible. Our kids are still young (9&11) so we have many years left however I think that once our kids are grown and gone, we will still do the drive with just the 2 of us. We are hoping that these trips help build strong lasting memories for our kids.
