Hi,

I will be driving from West Hollywood to Disneyland on Friday and I'm hoping someone on the boards can tell me how to get to Disneyland without running into Friday traffic. Does anyone know of a short cut besides taking the 5? Many Thanks!!

I think the key to avoiding traffic will be what time you leave. I don't usually drive that particular route but based on my experience with other freeways I would avoid the morning commute times (maybe 7-9?) but more importantly avoid the afternoon/evening commute which will be bad on a Friday. I would say make sure you leave at least by 2pm but leaving before 1pm would probably be better. I don't know of any short cuts.

I agree it is more when you go but there maybe 1 small shortcut time wise I can recommend.

While on the 5 south past downtown you can try the 605 south to the 91 east. it then reconnects to the 5 south. It may not seem like much on the map, but the 5 is almost always very congested between the 605 and 91 so it may save you some time.

It's not much but every little bit helps. I go to LA quite a bit and use this route between LA and OC.

I live in Anaheim and have a doctor in that area so I've gone there frequently. The 5 is always crowded in certain areas, like between the 91 and the 605 (which is where Orange County and LA County collide) regardless of time of day. The route suggested by Carmatts is a good one. I actually try to get off the 5 as soon as possible, so I take the 5 South to the 710 South. You can either take the 710 all the way to the 91, or you can do my favorite little dog-leg workaround which is to take the 710 South to the 105 East, then the 105 ends at the 605, which I take South to the 91, then veer right for the 5 and use the Disneyland exit.

It sounds really complicated but if you look at a map it's quite straightforward: 101-->5 South-->710 South-->105 East-->605 South-->91 East-->5 South off at Disneyland Dr.

This will miss almost all of the high traffic areas on the 5.
