Have any east coasters driven route 1 to Florida? It worth the extra time? Where did you start from? Tips?

I can't imagine how much extra time this would take. Obviously it depends on your start point but probably at a minimum it would double (triple?) the drive time itself. Of course there might be lots of reasons to stop along the way which would add to it. Be prepared for lots of local traffic and stop lights.

It will take you at least 4 days to travel from the northeast to Orlando. It's at best a 35 mile an hour road. Local traffic, red lights...It would be totally not worth my time, I know that. If you're seriously considering doing this, ensure you've looked at a triptilk from AAA.

Yeah..no thanks. Definitely not then. I mean DH and I love road trips and taking the back country roads, but probably not on a trip to Disney.

I regularly drive that route through the Maryland and Delaware beaches and it makes me crazy. It has taken me 2-4 hours just to travel 4 miles on many occasions. I couldn't imagine dealing with that to get to Disney.

A few years ago I dropped off a friend at Reagan National Airport and decided to count the number of traffic lights to get back home (south to Fredericksburg) via US1.

I think I counted 63 traffic lights along the 42 miles -- so sure you can do it but don't be in a hurry.

However if you want another route to try, you can take US301 and while there are still plenty of towns and lights along the way, I think it's more rural and wouldn't take as long.

Good luck!

I think OP is referring to U.S. Route 1 which goes from northern Maine to Key West, Florida.

Somewhat better than US 1, but definitely not ideal, would be U.S. 301 which starts in Delaware and goes to Tampa and roughly parallels Interstate 95 in many places.

There is no way I would consider Rte 1 a "back country road". And indeed it is pretty "seedy" in many stretches.
No way I would do that

This is so awful, I spend so much time driving these roads that I didn't even pay attention to that. I live right off 95 so I take that everyday as it's usually my fastest way to get anywhere. I was just thinking rt 1...

I've lived within 20 miles of "US-1" for most of the last 30 years

Today my house sits between 95 and US-1 and they are just a few miles apart here in Melbourne. checking two map programs, US-1 and I-95 are pretty darn close fm DC to Miami, 'cept for a stretch in GA

around here folks will go the 'long way around' to avoid driving on US-1!
