We recently got back from a great vacation over President's Day week. We are planning to go with family in November 2012. I am starting to drive everyone nuts planning and texting at least once a day about the trip. Given it is over a year away have I lost my marbles??? I don't think so but am getting out voted.:rotfl2:

No you haven't lost your marbles! Planning is part of the fun! ESPECIALLY when the trip is with alot of family or is off in the distant future, Heck we LOVE it all most as much as the actual trip, almost...lol..Shawnpirate:

I think that what you are doing seems very reasonable.

The first month or two that we get home from the World I am Disney nutso.

The first month or two that I'm planning a new trip I'm Disney nutso.

When I think that maybe I should start planning a trip I'm Disney nutso.

Definitely the two or three months before we leave for a trip I'm Disney nutso.

All of these seem totally acceptable to me, so if you fit in any of those buckets you seem totally fine to me!

My sentiments exactly! :cool1:

I am Disney nutso.

I wonder what it's like not to be Disney nutso? Part of what keeps me happy and sane is the thought of planning the next trip once the other is over!

To the OP, I don't think you're crazy at all! We can't help that others don't appreciate our enthusiasm, our consummate planning and organizational skills, or our subject matter expertise on the World! :rolleyes1 I thought I had an addiction until I found these boards! Now, I realize it's just a gift that I share with so many others! :lmao:

No, you haven't lost your marbles! I've been driving my family a little nuts lately with all the planning but they know they'll have the best possible trip by going along with itinerary.:)

Just yesterday my DH asked "are you talking points again...." Well we just bought resale and now have 390 more points to use which does not include the points I set aside for our Feb 10 day trip next year! Planning is 1/2 the fun! I will be on the phone at 9:00 am tomorrow trying to get 7 nights at THV fingers crossed!

To me, this says exactly what we feel. :thumbsup2

You are not nuts for planning, but you are going to drive the regular people nuts with the text messages!!!!! Keep planning - just lower the communications level to what they can handle - once a day, once a week?

They will probably enjoy the results of your planning but can't handle the information overload.

LOL, I think you are completely rational and sane! :thumbsup2 It is the rest of the "normal" people who are crazy. If you are driving some people nutty then continue to post here each day instead and we will ride the Disney planning/thinking train along with you just for fun. ;) If you can find one person in your group who shares your unique perspective that would be nice for you. I have a GF and we have only casually mentioned doing F&W in 2012 but we will still e-mail/text each that it is still at the top of our lists for next year if we can swing it. I have to say she is a recent convert but still it is fun to chat with her nonethless.

Continue with your planning and enjoy! :goodvibes

I am so happy to have read this tonight!! We just got back from a family trip earlier this month, so with great excitement I find myself looking to October 2012 as a possible next family trip. I know my family would think either, "We just got back" or "that is getting ahead of yourself, it is so far away" if I spoke with them about it. But, for me, I "need to" ponder the countless options of points and room configurations for the group by the 11 month window THIS fall, so to me it really doesn't seem far in advance at all. Plus, as others have said, planning is half the fun, and it sure eases the reality of a long awaited vacation coming to an end! So I think planning a fall 2012 trip seems perfectly logical. :thumbsup2

It seems that we never stop planning our next trip to WDW. People who are not Disney people never really get it, but they enjoy it. I think it is probably best to just spend hours obsessing about planning the perfect trip and then just spring it on them. Of course, you need their input on the timing of the event, which is difficult, since they also don't understand planning a trip over 11 months in advance!

As a PP said, just post your planning here and we will all appreciate your hard work!

You're not nutso, but you are talking to the wrong people about all your plans. That's what pre trip reports are for. You can work out various possibilities with people who get it. Tell your family about big decisions. I would have driven my spouse crazy sorting through my resort dilemmas, which involved refinancing, adding on, switching reservations, etc
Even though we had discussed what our plans were, that did not stop me from obsessing over them! :rotfl2: Through my PTR I had a nice bunch of followers which I could share my obsession.

So true! I've been planning a WDW vacation at some time or another all the way back to '02 when I started planning our 1st trip in '04. Now we have our 4th trip coming up in September which will be the last until probably 2014. After this trip we plan to go on our 2nd Disney cruise hopefully followed by a trip to Hawaii staying at Aulani of course.

Oh my goodness, that makes me feel kind of sad to think we won't be back for another three or four years!:sad1:

I agree with this!! I could easily drive everyone nuts but instead keep the thoughts to myself and if I have questions the family needs to answer I write them down and hit them once a week with a few questions.

In the meantime, share your "nutso" with us and we can all be crazy together! :dance3:

I am our Disney planner so I understand completely. Just be careful that the people you are going with are receptive to planning or it could be frustrating for you.

Wow! I could have written so many of the previous comments myself. We too returned from a trip in Feb, probably won't be returning until summer 2012 and I can't get Disney and trip planning off my mind either! Usually when we're just back from a trip,I can take a break from what some family members call my "obsession" but not this time! It is good to know that I'm not alone. I say - life is short and we should enjoy all the Disney we can get!

Having been on family trips that had WAY TO MUCH pre-planning and then having everyone angry because they ALL wanted to do something different - I suggest that you:

1) contact them once a week with an update of info or questions - find out what they WANT to do and TRY to make all of it possible. Like where do they want to stay and which parks do they want to be at each day. I'd suggest a "questionaire" of sorts. Make it fun.

2) i would NOT plan every day out. It can be fun to be spontaneous. We went last August figured she'd want to spend every day at MK with princesses, characters, etc. - Every morning we's ask where she wanted to go. You guessed it NOT MK but Epcot AND she wanted to ride the Mission Earth ad nauseum.

3) I AM a planner too but have learned that you need to let it "flow". It's more fun when everyone gets to enjoy the trip.

HAPPY PLANNING!
