I am supposed to be arriving at WDW on monday morning. I am driving in and am not sure exactly what to do. I know nothing about hurricanes, but think they hit and move out fast??? If i am driving in I75 monday morning will it be stormy out or will it be bad and i should wait? was thinking of getting a hotel room in georgia and waiting to see monday how the weather was but i would rather drive straight thru weather permitting.

Projections show the eye of the hurricane at the northern border of Florida where Georgia and Alabama meet at 2:00pm Monday. I don't think I would want to be on the road within a couple hundred miles of that location on Monday.

You might not be able to count on getting a hotel room in Georgia on Sunday night either. Sounds like people have been fleeing north to get out of this storm's way, and many of them are ending up in Georgia and SC (probably in hotels right on the interstate). Since the storm has slowed somewhat, people may not be giving up their rooms on Sunday to go back home - Frances may still BE at their home! You may want to wait another day to let things clear up (not to mention the traffic all going south). Of course, if this thing speeds up... it's a different story.

We plan on driving to WDW, Friday 9/10, however i've checked the weather.com website and they anticipate thunder storms all weekend 9/11-9/13, not to mention we still don't know what damage Frances will leave behind....

So, I don't know if I should reschedule, It's myself, DH, DS-5,DD-7,DD-9, I don't want us walking around the parks w/rain coats on the whole time. Sorry if i'm being negative, but when I think of WDW, I imagine blue and sunny skies.

Any opinions????????HELP!

The entire week we were there (just after Charley) the forecast was for scattered thunderstorms every day. Think it actually rained where we were twice. So by itself I wouldn't let the forecast concern me. Damage from Frances may be another story and is pretty hard to predict right now. Assuming it actually gets thru FL in the next few days (can't imagine what it's like for you all just WAITING for this thing to do something!) you should have a pretty good idea of damage before you need to make a decision about going. My guess is you'll be fine to go by the end of next week but stranger things have happened...!
Don't worry yet!

I wouldn't plan my trip around a weather forecast a week into the future...it could be way off.

A regular thunderstorm is a non-event in Florida. It could last just a few minutes or an hour, but rarely longer at this time of year. A thunderstorm could pass over the MK and you may never feel a drop of rain in Epcot. Thunderstorms are so localized and, usually, fast moving that they shouldn't be more than a minor inconvenience.

Lew & PlutoPony,

Thank you both for your thoughts... I feel much better. I will still watch for the aftermath and see what damages have been assesed... but as of this moment WE ARE GOING!!!!

My DH has been bound and determined that we are GOING, he is so ready for a vacation...I just want my family to have the best time!!!!!!!!!

Thanks again!

Another concern, since I'm driving do you think there will be alot of road closures due to Frances???

I'm driving in from Houston, TX...........

And it's anyones guess what Ivan is going to do.

There should be a Florida DOT website that lists road closings - you might give them a day or so to do assessments and post, but that may be a good source of info (assuming they update it)......
Good luck!

Now i'm worried about Ivan...think we are just going to rescbedule for the Thanksgiving holidays, my kids won't have to miss school then and it won't be counted as unexcused...there is a reason for everything!!
