Driving MK resorts - what did we do wrong?

Last week was the first time we've driven ourselves around the World. All went well except for two times we messed up - first trying to drive from the Contemporary to the Boardwalk, and second from the WL to the MK. Should have been easy drives. Somehow I kept coming back to where you can see the Magic Kingdom entrance lanes, then having to make a left turn into that whole area with Bonnet Creek Parkway, come around to the Boardwalk from the other side, and then, if going to the MK, all the way back up World Drive and back under the gates the other way.

For next time, what's the right way to get out of the MK resorts and onto World Drive?

Coming out of Wilderness Lodge hitting a light, if you took a left (south) there, you should have gone straight (west). If you had gone straight (south) at the previous light (from the other Wilderness Lodge driveway or from the Contemporary) you should have turned right (west). This takes you past the Polynesian to the World Drive MK exit which is something like a half mile (a whole mile?) down.

Left onto the World Drive exit and a little later you will see a left ramp to "return to MK" similar to an airport exit with a left ramp "return to airport".

From Fort Wilderness (campground) you would turn right (west) for Magic Kingdom (and have to go up and around past the Polynesian) but it is just as convenient to go left into the whole Bonnet Creek area to get to Boardwalk.

Out of the Polynesian take a right.

Once you found yourself "having" to make the left turn into "that whole area" you really needed to make a U turn and retrace your steps. Then you would have been on that same road facing the other way (north). Left at the next light now facing west you will be heading for the World Drive exit as above.

If you are staying at WL it really is not easy to park at the TTC(MK parking), you would have to go back out to, then in through MainGate to get there. Your best bet in this case is Disney transportation, either the boat from WL to MK or the Bus.

I tried that! and still couldn't find where else to get off that road.

Thanks for the info, I'm making a note for next time.

BR to BW... when you reach the light at the intersection to go to WL you make a right (WL would make a left). This will bring you past the TTC. When you reach the next intersection when you can get to Poly and GF, make a left and this will bring you out the main exit from the MK lot.

For WL to MK... when exiting WL go straight... follow the same direction as above past the TTC and the left toward the exit... just before the exit there is a turn around that will bring you back to MK parking.

I am assuming you were just visiting WL for a meal because it is a lot easier to just tak a bus to the MK rather than drive around the MK lot and then hop a monorail or ferry over...

Are you staying on property? When you check-in, ask for a WDW roadmap. What we usually do is I drive and my husband navigates.

Yup, we were staying at BWV but came up to Artist Point for dinner before MNSSHP. Another time we were simply trying to get back to the Boardwalk after dinner at California Grill.

Confounding problems was the fact that I was driving a massive van with seven of my relatives "helping" my sister navigate for me by yelling at me to turn, not turn, stop, go, etc. :joker:
