I've just been putting our documents together and can't find our paper bit of the driving licence. :sad2: We've got the picture parts just not the paper. Thinking about it i don't ever remember being asked to show it (twice in the US and in Australia) Do you think it will mater? It's too late to send away for it now but it would rearly spoil our trip if we couldn't drive.

Any advice :guilty:

To be honest yes it may be safer to have it with you and recently someone else was in a similar situation and the licence came back within a week.

Claire ;)

You can do it over the phone and pay by debit card, do it today and i'm confident you would get it in plenty of time especially if you explain the situation, done my DH over the phone and it arrived 5 days later!

Just had a look for you it's £19.00
The number is 0870 240 0009
They are open Mon - Fri 8.00am - 8.30pm
Sat 8.00am - 5.30pm
Hope this helps. :thumbsup2
I'd definately do it to be on the safe side i wouldn't want to be out there without a car we would miss it too much.

So you don't have to sent your picture licence back to get a new paper bit?

My DH had lost both parts so i'm not sure but give them a ring see what they say. They might only replace the paper part seeing as that's all you've lost :confused3

From a security point of view can see why you would need to return the remaining part, if they issue a whole new card and counterpart, ring them and see what they say.

Claire ;)

if its any help, when we picked up from Dollar last year, my DH produced both picture and paper license. The man serving us said "I don't need to see that" with regards to the paper part ..., but I can see sense in everyone elses comments - better to be safe than sorry

Everything I have ever read has said you need both parts of your driving licence. We were not asked to show the paper part this year but that is not say you won't. To be on the safe side I would get a replacement.

we recently had to get a new paper part for dh cos he had lost it. he phoned dvla on the saturday and a replacement paper part and new photocard arrived on the tues.

we also provide both parts on arrival but no one has looked at the paper bit but not to say they wouldnt on this trip.

give them a ring and see what they say, if you say you have lost it and your photoid is still the same i dont think it costs anything.(but i cant remember that bit)

Even if the car hire company don't want to see it, if you are stopped by the police for any reason, they will want to see both parts

Very good point :thumbsup2
Have you phoned them yet, any news?

Going to have a proper look tonight. I posted just before going to work yeaterday (late shift ) and have been on an early today so haven't been able to ring, but if i don't find it tonight i'll have to get home on time tomorrow to ring. Thanks for all the advice :thumbsup2

Good look around and we found them, both mine and DH's together in with our old travel documents from Australia last November :cool1: Sooooooo relieved. I have discovered though that i never throw anything away. I've got all the paperwork from holidays dating back to 2002!!! :rotfl:

Panic over - for now at least ;)
