Driving into WDW from Windsor Hills

I have heard that in June we could be sitting in traffic for a couple of hours everyday trying to get into the parks, has anyone experienced that?
We are trying to make our decision between Windsor Hills and on-site.

Also, does anyone know if Windsor Hills has a shuttle into the parks?

I've never been in June before but I have been a lot of other times of the year and even in March the traffic wasn't that bad. If you've got a car it's only a 5 - 10 min drive from WHills. WH does have a shuttle but the schedule may not work for you, someone else maybe able to help you with that. If you have a car and go by the Sherberth Rd route Animal Kindgom is only about 2 miles away and if you use Funie Steed Rd and Entry Point Blvd you only have to cross 192 to Sherberth not drive any distance on it. Someone else that lives in the area maybe able to help you more.

Directions from Airport
Take the 528 West (toll road, numerous .50/.75 tolls) to the I-4 West (Tampa).
Get off on Exit 64B (192 West)
Continue on to 3rd light which will be Old Lake Wilson Road (County Road 545), take a left at the light.
Windsor Hills is on the right hand side about 0.8 of a mile down (bottom of the hill).
Tell the gate guard the address you are staying at and they will give you a pass to hang in your car window.

Note: If you arrive during rush hour you can also take the 417 south, but it’s about $3.50 in tolls. You come out at Celebration, from there follow the signs for 192 west.

Shortcut to Disney
To take the shortcut to Disney, take Old Lake Wilson Road back towards 192, but take a left on Morgan-Wilson. Take the next left onto Funie Steed. At the stop sign take a right on Entry Point/Sherberth road. Take Sherberth over 192 and continue on into Disney (you make a right cause the road ends into a guard shack though). It will only take you about 3-5 minutes to get there this way.

On the way back from Disney follow the signs for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. At the traffic lights before the lodge (it comes up fast) take a left onto Sherberth. You will also see the sign for 192. It's tricky the first time but if you follow the signs back to AK/AKL it's as good as if they put up signs all over WDW directing you back to WHR!

I can't imagine it taking "hours" from Windsor Hills, ever. It's only 2 miles and 2 traffic lights away... especially if you take the back door Sherberth road route. Now if you go up I-4 to the main entrance, it might be a different story...but June isn't the worst traffic of the year either, that would be Easter, Thanksgiving, and Xmas, but we've heard that the backdoor route gets you there quickly even on those dates.

I have heard that the traffic on US-192 gets pretty busy on those holiday periods, but you don't need to get on 192 using this route, and again, it's June, not one of the crazy holiday periods.

As far as the shuttle goes...

How does the Windsor Hills Resort daily shuttle service work/operate/etc?

In the sundry shop in the Windsor Hills clubhouse you can find schedules and make arrangements. Shuttle cost is $10 per person round trip to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, or Animal Kingdom. $14 per person round trip to universal, seaworld, and shopping area. There is an information sheet at the clubhouse with the time schedule. The shuttle company is MAINGATE TRANSPORTATION. They can be called at # 407-390-0000. A taxi cab to Disney is $20 one way.. cab to Universal is $32 one way.... Don't forget it costs $10 per day for parking at Disney and Universal if you drive.

I think nearly every guest that has stayed with us, and many if not most posters here on the DIS, would tell you that they would never go back onsite after staying here, it's a gorgeous resort! Plus, the location, the space, amenities, etc, for the rates they go for, you really can't beat it.

I guess if I ever win the lotto I might go for the Presidential Suite at the Grand Floridian for a special "treat"...but most of us aren't that rich! LOL

I agree -- from any of the developments in that area off 192 (Emerald Island, Windsor Palms, Oak Island Cove, Formosa Gardens, WH, etc.) it wouldn't take you two hours if you crawled on your hands and knees -- blindfolded.

We got from doorstep to park turnstile faster from Emerald Island than from AKL or WL in most cases (MK being an exception, especially from WL), regardless of traffic.

I've heard of people waiting 30+ mins just to GET a bus...then you have the drive time...so it's going to be quicker ...unless you own a helicopter!
