We are planning our first camping experience at the fort for next December. We live in Wisconsin and my husband is nervous about driving that far with the pop-up camper. Did anyone drive this far and in this season? Do you think we will run into winter storms?
Thanks,

Many drive all the way from Canada in Dec.
Most bad weather is in Jan.
I'd go for it.

My trip last December from Columbus started off in ice and snow the day I left, for about the first 120 miles. I just took it easy and left plenty of distance ahead of me for stopping and had no problems. I ran out of the bad weather before Lexington and it was fine from there. Just watch out for the "other" idiots out there.

Just watch the weather channel and build some time into your schedule to account for possible storms. We have actually stayed an extra day or 2 in FL rather than driving through winter weather.

When we went last december going down wasnt the problem, driving home straight thru was the problem.
We tried to beat a snow storm and made it home about 3 hours before it began.

That's what we do and just be flexible and don't try and push things. If you need to be back by a day certain and the weather is bad park the trailer for a few days south several hundred miles, go home and when the weather is better go get your trailer.

We started out from NH in a storm (a first ever winter camping trip for us). Definitely have to take it slower with a pop-up on the back so it doesn't slip around.
Our camper was so coated in muck and road salt that we stopped at a self-server carwash in Georgia to desalt the camper before hitting WDW.
A week later, our trip home was spring-like weather.
