Will be driving from Wilkes Barre Pa to Disney World what is the best route to take would like to avoid the DC area if I could. Also where is the best place to stop and find a good hotel about halfway. So I don't have a long drive the second day. Any help will be appreciated.Thank you

Please join us on the "For 2000+ miles round trip drivers only..." (or whatever it's called exactly LOL) thread. There are plenty of folks who can help with that route.

Plus lots of other good tips.

As long as you're not driving in the wintertime, I would assume that the best route for you is to take I-81 to I-77 to I-26 and then onto I-95. If it's wintertime, I'd prefer to go down I-83 and get onto I-95 in Baltimore.

Goofy26.....I would agree with Granddad Tom as to route.....as he said as long it's not winter.......because that route will take you thru the Blue Ridge Mountains. Last time we drove (from Moosic, actually) in January, 2011....we drove down with our son who was going to spend the spring semester that year working in the Disney College Program and then we flew home.....we took 81 to Route 66 in VA (Front Royal) then cut down Route 17 thru Warrenton, VA and picked up Route 95 right above Fredericksburg, VA. Route 17 takes you thru some farmland and a little bit of mountain area.....but not much. The best part is it drops you on 95 far enough south of DC to avoid the DC traffic mess. As far as a hotel.......I wish I could help you more with that.....we did not have a good experience in Savannah when we stopped there overnight......there are quite a few hotels there right off 95 but we obviously chose the wrong ones....ended up leaving after 10 minutes in the room and went to one of the others in the same area near the Savannah airport.....unfortunately that one wasn't any better....we did end up staying....only because it was already midnight and we were exhausted, but, it was not pleasant.....very unkempt.....looked OK on the outside, but, rooms were not very clean at all. The first place was Spring Hill Suites and the second was Towne Place Suites......have stayed at both chains before and never had a problem.....but, these two were very unkempt. Have a good trip!

We drive from Northern NY and go through Wilkes-Barre on our first day. The last time we went, we tried the same route as Donna L. and had good luck with it as well. Before this we would go all the way to Staunton and then take 64 to 95. The 66 to 17/15 seemed to shave a good hour off of our drive without the headache of DC.
As far as a hotel, I can't help with one specifically as we take 3 days to get there and stop in Va. and then Kingsland, Ga., but I can tell you that we stayed in one of the newly renovated Sleep Inn's in Stony Creek, Va. last time and it was very nice for the price. Rooms were all freshly remodeled and very clean, with an indoor pool and breakfast in the AM. It's nothing fancy, but a good place to lay your head for a night. The Sleep Inn website has a list of all of the hotels they have remodeled. If you know roughly the area you wish to stop, I recommend looking to see if there is a place nearby on the list.
