Hello fellow Mouse Lovers!

For the first time I am considering renting a car rather than using DME as we want to go to Universal Studios 2 or 3 times. I know from our last trip that it is about $50 for a cab each way.

My question is - how difficult is it to drive from WDW to Universal? I don't mind driving busy highways but I know there can be toll booths which I am not used to at all - there are none in my area.

I'd love any tips or information you can offer!

Cheers!

Carolyn

I've driven there before. It was fairly easy. Everything is very well marked.

Very easy, no tolls, but you will have to pay $20 parking @ UO each day.

Traffic on I-4 often backs up passing SR535 leaving Disney, but usually flows well the rest of the way to UO.

Ouch that parking fee is steep! Almost makes the cab rides worth it. I'm also considering a Mears pickup and a cab ride back. I'm in a wheelchair for walking purposes only but if my back goes on me I need to be able to leave when I want so I am hesitant to know I have to wait until a certain time to be picked up by Mears.

UberX costs about 1/3 the fare of a taxi on that trip. UberX vehicles seat 4 passengers; most are small cars (all have 4 doors.) UberXL costs about 80% more than UberX, and the vehicles are vans or SUV's that seat at least 6 passengers.

If you're traveling with a folding wheelchair and would like to use Uber, consider whether the chair would fit in the trunk, hatch, or back seat of a small car and leave enough room for your group. If not, order an UberXL.
