Good afternoon all,

we have decided to cancel flights due to all the uncertainty and drive from just north of Toronto. My question is from what I recall I75 is a bit safer less time in the mountains but it is longer. If we go through Buffalo it is shorter but we will hit the mountains sooner. I just can’t remember when? Any veteran drivers here know when it starts getting “hilly” and then when we kinda come out of it?

we will be going in Feb so weather could change everything but just trying to get an idea.

thank you
Kim

Hi, I'm in the Niagara Region, so fairly close to the Border. I've always taken the i90 to i79 route. It's the fastest route to Orlando (NY - Pennsylvania - West Virginia - Virginia - North Carolina - South Carolina - Georgia - Florida). Last March Break we drove was 3 years ago. I recall it was about -8 going through Pennsylvania, with some snow early on, but it eventually cleared. The bigger hills start as you approach WV, so about 4-5 hours into the drive. WV is a long haul, but Virginia is short, and then it's North Carolina, and weather's on your side. Good luck!

That’s awesome, thank you so much for the info, I really do prefer the shorter drive, hubby was a bit worried about the mountains and weather.

Just saw that the Government website change to having a POSSIBLE $5000 fine for returning via land with a positive test. Any thoughts on how possible possible is?

Well the thing is they have to let you back in your own country. I think as long as you tell them as we do have to take a test to come back.

And you'd be right. Driving thru WV in the winter is ugly and stressful. We've done it in the spring and it's fine but winter not so much. We'd rather take the long route and drive thru safer roads.
Here's how we drove from TO to Central FL last time.
-Toronto-Buffalo-Pittsburgh (sleep here)
- A steep detour from Pittsburg- Harrisburg, PA to take I-81 (which is super nice and safe) - Salem, VA (sleep here)
- Salem-Savannah (sleep here)
- Savannah- Central FL
3 nights, 4 days. - You could easily do it in 2 nights, 3 days, but we usually take it nice and slow.
How long are you planning on for the drive?

Thank you for your insight. We planned to either afterwork drive to Windsor, then next morning early cross down through Cincinnati to SC for the 2nd night.

or start driving stupid o’clock in drive down again to SC but crossing in Bufalo.

we just want 1 night/2 days if we cross in Buffalo or 2 nights 3 days if we cross in Detroit.
