Hi. Seasons greetings!!

Advice required on a good place for an overnight stop when travelling from Orlando to Washington.

Would like to make the most of our last day in Orlando so thinking of a late afternoon start from Orlando and then fly from Washington in evening the following day. We will have three drivers to share the load. :drive:

Any advice appreciated.

You mean DC, right? Not Washington State. :)

When I was driving from near-DC down to the top of Florida, I stopped in Spartanburg, SC. But that's mainly because I had friends there. Otherwise I would have gone further south that first day.

A few more details will help, like how far you want to go the first day, when you can leave, and when you need to be in DC for your flight.

Its about 5 hours to Savannah, Georgia....that would be a neat place to see, but leaves you a 8-10 hour drive the next day.

The next city of significant size is Richmond, Virginia. But that's about a 10-12 hour drive from Orlando.

Between Savannah and Richmond there are many towns that have motels right by the highway (I-95). Unless you're driving on a holiday weekend, you could easily just pull off where-ever you wanted and find a place that had vacancy.

Florence, South Carolina, and Rocky Mount & Lumberton, North Carolina are bigger towns with concentrations of lodging.

You also need to factor in DC area commuter traffic, which can be horrendous and add an hour or two to a trip.
