hi, just wondering any new yorkers driven to wdw, how long did it take and where did you stop over night and when did you arrive in wdw. thanks for any info

We live on Long Island and just drove down in September. We were supposed to fly out on the 18th and were contemplating cancelling the trip when we decided to drive down. My kids (2.2 and 4.5) were excellent. We also had my parents with us in the minivan - so that really helped. We ended up leaving at about 1pm on Sunday the 16th. We drove straight through to Rocky Mount, NC arriving there around 8:30pm. We had packed sandwiches and snacks for the trip and only stopped for gas. The next morning we left at around 9am and arrived in Orlando around 6pm and stopped for dinner.

The trip home took a little longer. We were not as organized - like having sandwiches made, etc. I would definitely consider driving down again. We just brought books on tape, a couple of handheld games and my husbands laptop with one DVD for the kids, but they were great.

would love to hear from any other new yorkers out there who drove to wdw. thanks

Well, not NY, but close, northern NJ! We have driven down several times and each was different. Usually we would leave about 2:30am in order to get past DC before the morning rush which starts to kick in about 6am. Just past DC, in Fredricksburg, Va, we would stop for breakfast at the Sheraton Inn (exit 130B). They have a nice buffet breakfast. We would continue on stop at Hardeeville, SC around 5:30pm for the night. Then up the next morning early, and all that was left was about 5 1/2 hours the second day to get to Disney.

We brought books on tape, and alot of the WPLJ radio station scam tapes to listen and laugh to. We drove for about 5 years, and the kids always did well.

Any other questions, ask away!:D

In 1991, my husband and I (then boyfriend) drove from Pace University's parking lot in Pleasantville to Orlando in less then 24 hours for spring break.

Basically drove non-stop and got stuck in DC traffic. I believe we made it to the FL / GA border in 20 hours and then another 3 hours to Orlando. This was 10 years ago so the memory is a bit fuzzy on the exact times. The only thing really remember it was late at night and I was just about to fall asleep and I was asked to drive and I wound up driving the whole night until 6:00 am.. Our hotel room wasn't ready until 3:00. To be young and naive again.

We fly most of the time, but in the past 4 years we have driven down about 5 or 6 times. We would leave westbury at about 6:30 pm after I got off work. We would drive straight through. We have a van with the tvr/vcr/nintendo so the kids were pretty much occupied. We would arrive anywhere between 10:30 am to 1pm the next day. A good time is about 18 to 19 hours, our record was 16 1/2, average 17.5 to 18.5. The only problem as always is getting off the Island. We haven't tried it since we got EZpass. I would drive until sunrise, then I would wake up my wife and one of the kids to stay up to talk to her. Then I would take over again around 9 or 10 am. It's not really that bad. If you're a sports fan you can pick up WFAN all the way down to South Carolina. On the way back, occasionally we would go straight through or stop just into southern Virginia for the night. Have a great trip.

We are driving down for the New Years celebration. We leave around the 27th and check out Jan. 13th. We are so excited. We are using the website www.freetrip.com to help us. Any tips please post! Did anyone stop at south of the border?:bounce: :bounce:
