OK HOW DO YOU DO THAT!? Sounds delicious. But do you heat the filling up? Then roll it in? Or do you do it all cold? Details please. I do love me some artichoke dip!

Gotta love that plug in cooler - mine is probably one of the best birthday presents I ever received. We usually load ours with deli meats/cheese and home-made chicken salad.

i am now shopping around for the portable fridge do i have to purchase the car adapter seperate?

I think I have seen the coolers at Target before ,I like to bring Homemade Egg muffins ,they are cold but still tasty, also I make caramel covered Pretzels, these are a great easy to eat treat,You can cover them with nuts, dried cranberries, choc chips ,peanutbutter chips whatever you like ,.cold fried chicken fingers are also alittle easier to eat than the standard fried chicken(if you don't want to stop and eat)also fresh fruit and cut up ve
gies I LOVE THE SUSHI IDEA,I THINK I WILL DO THAT FOR MYSELF!
GOOD EATS:thumbsup2

Mine came with the car adapter as well as a wall plug. It cost about $100 and came from WalMart. I am sure there have been many improvements since I got mine since I have had it about 10 years.

it can be done both ways..heat up to melt the fillings and spread and roll. You can serve cold or hot after they ar made...yummy

When we drive down from Boston we like to stop at the diners and restaurants that we don't get to go to all the time. We bring cucumber hummus wraps as a snack.:thumbsup2

If you don't already have :worship:"Drive I-95" the book, you need it. It helped us so much. It tells you what is off every exit and what is available for food. How far off the exit the gas stations are, and reviews on everything. Great book.

We are from Ontario, Canada and drive also to WDW with a plug-in cooler. We bought it at Walmart in 2007 for $45US. Things we put in the cooler are: luncheon meat of our choice, sliced cheese, honey mustard, butter, cheese strings, fresh fruit and some bottles of iced tea. In our non-refridgeable box we have cereal bars for the adults, cereal bars for the kids, cereal (NON-sugary), homemade fruit roll-ups, raisins (yes kids are being watched so they do not choke), crackers (usually the Swiss cheese kind) and one small special treat (like rice krispies). We try to be very careful of any sugar coming into the car with 4 kids under 11....lol

****** Forget to mention that I have a food intolerance (dam stomach of mine....grrrr) to various foods.

Didn't see this mentioned but I would also make chicken cutlets - they are great in sandwiches and wraps and that would make a change up from cold cuts. Less messy and easy for even the driver to eat on the go rather than cold fried chicken. I also love the idea of the pasta salad and maybe no mayo cole slaw- even with a plug in cooler you may want to avoid too many dairy products in warmer weather. I'd probably put most of the foods in ziploc bags too to conserve space in the cooler so you can add drinks to keep cool on the way.

Sounds like fun! Wish we would have had that on college road trips! Have a great time :thumbsup2

Do you think you could find one of those mini plug-in microwaves? That would open up the car food to a whole new level :goodvibes

Those microwaves are expensive! I found this warming box, though. I wonder how well it works. I would be much more inclined to bring food along if I could warm it up. I don't like cold food for some reason...things like ham and chicken taste so much better warm...to me:goodvibes

So agree :thumbsup2 I have done chicken cutlets cut in strips and used for wraps. Add lettuce, tom and drizzle your favorite salad dressing then roll them up.

Target had the plug in coolers after Christmas this past year for $19...I love the fried chicken, Pasta Salad Idea (We have used that idea in the past) and the recipe that was posted looks YUMMY! We always use frozen bottled water to help keep things cooler and as it melts it is still ice cold. We have children so we also freeze the juice boxes for the same reason. We like to use sub rolls so the bread doesn’t get soggy. Grapes, yogurt (you can freeze these too), string cheese, buttered popcorn rice cakes and peanut butter are favorites…We buy the individual cereal bowls (Usually off of Amazon when on special), just add milk (although they also like the frosted mini wheat’s with or without milk).

I am also planning to bring meals with us on the road. I'll make a sandwich I've made in the past: Italian loaf of bread, deli turkey then a spread of cream cheese, mayo, chopped green onion, shredded colby/jack with a touch of worcerstershire.

I also bring along a pasta salad. I keep mine simple: pasta, jarred pesto sauce, mayo and petit, little precooked salad shrimp. It's really, really gooooood too! :thumbsup2. Add in some pringles, drinks and some fruit and you're good to go!
