Hey all,

Driving from NY with friends trying to surprise the little ones. Question is, are there any billboards that could ruin the surprise along either I95 or I4 that could ruin the surprise?

Well...once you get into the southern states you periodically will see ticket signs for Disney but they probably will not notice them. Once on I4 you then start seeing signs for Universal, Sea World and so on. At that point you need to get them playing with a pad or phone or something that keeps their heads down. So for the most part you are ok until you hit Florida. How are you going to cover up the fact that it is an 18 hr drive and not tell them they are going to Florida? Just about anybody will make the connection between Florida and going to Disney...

I gotta say, it is pretty cool. My parents never did the surprise trip but i have got say i still feel one of the best times of my life as a kid was waking up to the steam train whistle in Fort Wilderness (early on there was a steam train that would take you around fort wilderness in addition to trams and buses).... I do hope it works out. It will be one of those life long memories. Good luck.

So far we've just told them we're going on a road trip.. No destination has been given.. We're planning on leaving at like 8 pm and driving straight through (4 drivers in the car).. Hopefully they'll sleep through most of the night.. I'm actually thinking if we can make it to breakfast, that might be good because then they have something to look forward to for the next few hours rather than just complaining that they're stuck in a car..

I am assume you meant you plan to leave at 8am and not 8pm. 8pm will get you to Kiss around 5pm the next day but if you leave at 8am you should be able to make it by 5 or 6am. Plus they will sleep the whole southern leg of the trip and you will then be able to wake them up in the resort parking lot... We drive it twice a year and do the trip in two driving days. Day one takes 10 hrs from Philly to Florence SC and Day two takes 8 hrs from Florence to Kiss. These times have been shown to be consistent over the years. Assuming you have two driving hours from NY to Philly that would give the rough arrival times shown above. So it should be very do-able to get there in time for breakfast.

Good luck and let us know how you make out. We love travel reports... :thumbsup2

No, we're leaving at 8 PM, we're getting down there a night early and staying off property for a night, then checking into POFQ in the morning (Bright and superr early for breakfast reservations at CP)..
We figure arrival around 5 PM will give us plenty of time to get a good nights rest before hitting the parks the next morning. Guessing although we may try and get some sleep in the car on the way down, its unlikely to happen due to sheer excitement..

We are heading down from central Ny (syr) in October and we typically leave around 4pm and will be near Disney by 10 am and we have been doing this trip for years . Just cant wait to get their
