In 3 short weeks, we are taking the drive from NJ to Orlando. We are stopping in Jacksonville for a night to spend time with my sister in law and her kids. So that's only 14 hours to her house. We plan on doing it at one shot. We are leaving Friday. My husband plans to get home from work around 3. The car would already be packed and we will leave. We figure we'll get as far as we can before traffic hits, stop for dinner, and then get back on the road. The plan is I will drive the first half since I will try to nap during the day, then my husband will try to sleep in the car with our 3 kids (yeah right LOL!)....we will take turns.

Is there a better time to leave? We plan on getting there Saturday morning....hanging with the cousins, going to bed very early, getting up the next day on Sunday and heading to DW :)

Then on the way home, we are leaving on a Saturday and driving home. What is the best time to leave DW? We would like to spend some time in the parks that day???

We are doing our first drive with the family from S Jersey in October...plan on leaving after dinner 7 ish (maybe the kids will far asleep around 10 pm) stop for breakfast around 7-8 am and get to disney by 1pm. I drove with my parents when I was little alot so not to bad for me but this will be the first time with my kids!
Thinking the first 12 hours won't be bad because less cars on the road, maybe we will make good time, just hope the day we get there we won't be so tired we can't do anything!

I would suggest leaving around 7:00. That should avoid most of the traffic in Virginia. Have dinner before you get on the road, since you should get past Richmond before stopping.

We just left Disney this past Saturday (8/6) ... pulled out of Bay Lake/Contemporary at 6:29 a.m. and pulled into our home in Bucks County, PA at 10:45 p.m. (we live about 45 mins. above Philly) ... it was a great ride .. we had minimal traffic and great weather! Good luck!

We're leaving north jersey at around 7pm. Don't want to mess with DC traffic!
