I'm driving from north NJ to WDW. Anyone stop in any good/affordable/clean hotels on the way down recently. Any state would help.
thanks.....

We have stayed at La quinta's & Red Roofs both have been fine.Didn't like Motel 6 or budget 6 (you will see) was gross. We are originally from North Jersey the drive is not as bad as you think it will be.Good Luck be safe .

the Best Western in Fayetteville, NC. is a clean motel 60 bucks a night,, has 2 queen beds and a microwave and a small fridge too!! plus a nice free breakfast.. plus it is halfway to North jersey about 11 .5 hours in actual driving time including stops.

We stayed in (I believe) Byron GA, just below Atlanta in a Super 8. Huge room, clean, small breakfast area but nice cont. breakfast. Good AAA rate. If you are a AAA member, your tourbooks or online viewing should give you the info you need to know. If not, I would suggest at least borrowing a book (more than one to cover the states you will need) and you can read the ratings.

On the way home we stayed in Chattanooga at the LaQuinta by the mall. There were about 12 motels at that exit and ours was fine.

Traveling from MD to WDW, we've never gone wrong with Hampton Inn. It's usually $5-10 more than the others, but, they're always very clean, comfortable, and we get the free breakfast. We use our AAA discount plus HI is a US air dividend miles partner. My in-laws travel frequently back and forth, they recommend either the Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inn.

Just back from our second drive to Florida. We actually enjoy the ride even with two kids, 14 and 11.

First trip made it to Santee, South Carolina and stayed at the County Inn and Suites on the way down (CLEAN AND A VERY VERY NICE HOTEL) offer a small but nice breakfast.

Way home Comfort Inn in Battleboro, NC- DON'T STAY THERE!!!!
None of us used the bathroom, showered or walked around without shoes in that one. We were up and out in 16 minutes the next morning. UGH Offered breakfast but we didn't want to chance it.

Second trip- left on a Sunday the 16th no traffic at all on roadways and was able to make it to Port Wentworth GA in the same amount of time it took on our first trip to Santee.
Country Inn and Suites again. Same thing clean and a very nice hotel.

Coming home we unfortunately ended up in the same Battleboro area. Tried to push it but we were getting tired and didn't want to risk driving further. This time stayed at Deluxe Inn- not really a deluxe hotel at all. Much cleaner than the comfort inn just next store. Bathroom was clean so we could use it. Offered no breakfast.

One good tip is to stop at the Welcome Center in each state and grab a hotel coupon book. This atleast gives you an idea what hotels are at each exit and offers somewhat of a discount to you.

Enjoy your trip.

Hi! We just did the drive from Maryland and we stayed at the same place both times....the Super 8 in Dillon, SC, although the first room we got was great and the second was horrible-both in the same hotel! Got a gov't rate of $45 on the way down and $51 the way back (that was a Saturday night)

On our last trip (sept '01), we stayed at the Best Western in Yemassee (where the Sabatier outlet is--we usually pick up a knife each trip!) and even though it was undergoing renovations, it was great.

The previous trip (April '01), we stayed at the Travelodge in Savannah-nothing special, but clean. On the way back, we stayed in Fayetteville and I can't remember where we stayed!

I used an I95 website and created a page of each state's hotels and restaurants from NC to Georgia, removing chains we'd never heard of. This was so that we'd have food we'd eat nearby, but we bought a refrigerated cooler and never ate near the hotel, opting instead to give the boys yogurts and we ate fruit.

Good luck!

Suzanne

I just booked the Best Western (on-line) in Savannah,Ga. We're driving from central jersey this saturday and want to stay overnight in Ga. I never stayed there and I hope its good. Can't beat the price, especially being AAA.Has a fridge, microwave and coffeemaker. Does anyone know anything about this hotel? Its exit 94 off of I-95.
