Hi,

Firstly, apologies if this question has already been asked (and answered).

I am trying to pull together our plans for our vacation to the West Coast in August. We are planning on two or three days at Disneyland, but also fancy some time beachside.

Checking Google Maps, the distances from Newport or Huntington Beaches comes in around the 18-20 mile mark (around 40 mins drive), but I appreciate that if we are trying to get to the parks for opening, we would be hitting peak-hour traffic, plus time for parking and catching transportation to the park.

Realistically, what sort of driving time could we expect from these two areas to Disneyland? We will be in the area 2nd to 8th August.

Many thanks.

I am interested in knowing, too. We are planning for at least one beach day...we arrive Saturday. :)

While in SoCal and using google maps, take the time estimated and multiply it by 3. Rush hour traffic is pretty bad, durning the week that is 6AM - 10AM in the morning and in the afternoon it is 3PM-7PM.

Thanks for that info - I suspected it may be significantly more than the time stated!!!

I guess we have a couple of options open to us, either stay in Anaheim for the duration and drive out to the beaches, or from San Diego head up to Newport/Huntington for a few days, then move over to Anaheim for two or three nights.

I suspect the third option may be to stay on the beach but spend the Saturday and Sunday over at Disneyland plus one other day - fingers crossed the traffic may not be as bad, although I would be predicting busier parks at the weekend :crazy2:

Decisions, decisions.

I just noticed you will be here in August.... Traffic won't be as bad. Possibly multiply the times stated by 2.

:-)

We just drove from Disneyland to Newport Beach last Wednesday. It took us 25 minutes down I-5 to 55. We left our Disneyland hotel about 12 noon and traffic wasn't too bad. Maybe add a few more minutes to find the beach. We had a great time, weather was beautiful and gorgeous scenery. We are already planning on going to Newport next spring/summer and staying several days.

** I just realized you said you would be hitting rush hour traffic! Yes, double or triple the stated times.

Perfect timing, I was researching beaches this afternoon! We're staying near the parks (May 30 - June 7) and plan on driving to Newport and Huntington beaches. What time do you think the parking spots would be still be open? Would 8-8:30 still find plenty of parking? I guess we'll have to leave the hotel around 6:30 to get there about that time.

From Huntington Beach the best bet is to avoid the freeway and head straight up a major street like Magnolia all the way to Katella/Ball and take a right. The drive to DLR will probably take about 45 minutes, maybe a little less because school won't be in session (school zones). Transportation, security, etc. could eat up another 30-40 minutes.

When we went for a day in July a couple years ago we left HB about 6:30 and had plenty of time before an 8:00 opening.
