We will be driving to WDW with 3 boys (9,7,3).
Any suggestions for car travel and a good midway, place to stay would be greatly appreciated!
We are DVC members at Beach Club and believe it or not this is my first attempt at being on message boards!!
Thanks in advance!!

Hi! I live in Lynchburg, and we always stop between savanah and Jacksonville. It makes it not so far the next day so we can get there and have time to start the disney memory making!!!
Also, on the family board there is a thread that has different car activies.

Small world.

I am in Lynchburg area (Concord) also. And those were the exact places I did mapquest directions for to get estimations on drive time.

When we drove down last time, we did spend the night in Savannah. Beautiful place and some very friendly people. I think this time I am leaning more towards trying to make it to the Southern side of Jacksonville, then we will only have a 3 hour drive to the MOUSE the next morning :goodvibes

AHHH That's INSANE!!! I'm actually in Rustburg, but nobody no's where that is. I always say lynchburg because people relate it with Liberty. I'm so happy to here I'm not the only diser in the area

We'll be driving down to Disney from Northern VA, too! (Woodbridge)

We always try and leave at night, so the kiddos sleep most of the way!

We live in Northeast Baltimore area. When we drive to WDW we try to leave by 4AM (mostly to miss rush hour in DC ). If we have to leave later in the day then we try to spend the night somewhere before Savannah. :cloud9:

I live in Vienna, VA. Like others, I would recommend driving to Savannah. We stayed right around there the one time we made the drive. On the way back, we left early in the morning and drove straight through. I would never do that drive again though. We have been taking planes ever since.

We drove from No VA and left around 6pm, stopped in SC sometime after 1am, sleep and continued next day. We brought DVD player for DD7 and DD5, also got crayons and coloring books to keep them entertainted. It was an easy drive there.
We drove straight on the way back and would not recommend that unless you leave FL very early.

OMG, I am so new to this you all have been so kind to get me answers and I have no idea that you did???
How does one know when a message has been answered?
Thanks for the travel tips!!

I am on the other side of VA. I'm in Blacksburg.

I get emails whenever I get a reply to a message. You might have to set you account up to do that. Go to User CP and change it.

We leave around 4am so the kids will still be asleep. We pack breakfast foods (yogurt, fruit, cereal, etc.) and stop at a rest area to eat. I pack a disposable table cloth for the table and several bottles of bubbles. As each child gets done eating they get a bottle of bubbles to play with while we clean up. This gives them the chance to move around and get the wiggles out before getting back in the car. Also pack a jump rope for extra exercise :yay: . We drive straight thru. DH and I take turns driving. I also buy new movies over the months leading up to the trip and pull one out when they get bored. Each child gets a special goody bag filled with pens/crayons, pad/coloring book, and a book to read. All of these things I picked up from dollar tree or on sale. I would recommend the Disney or Nick Jr. magazine. That puts them in the right frame of mind for the trip. It also makes the drive go by faster.

I hope this helps.

Hey, just wanted to say hi from another Virginian (also Woodbridge). We always fly because with just two of us, me and my DS, it is cheaper than taking two days to drive to FL and two days back, which means 2 additional hotel/motel stays and the cost of gas. It would be probably be about the same cost as just flying!
