Ok, so we found a last minute car rental rate that is cheaper than using the shuttle! :cool1: I am very excited about that, because I don't have to worry about the shuttle's time table.

My dilemma, however, is driving directions. We have flown into LGB and driven to the HoJo a few times, and have tried a couple of routes. This time, Google maps is pulling up two different routes that we haven't tried, and DH is bidding to try one of his own.

In that past, we've done this kind of funky thing where we are on the 405 briefly, and use Katella for the majority of the drive. DH, after getting to know the area, is curious why the map programs don't suggest that you take E Wardlow Rd, which turns into Ball, and follow it all the way? This does seem easy, but I wonder if it is all stop and go and unpredictable time wise?

The two options from Google are to take Lakewood Blvd south to 405 S, then 605 N, then I-5 to the Harbor Blvd exit.

The other one is to take Lakewood north to 91 E, then straight to I-5.This option seems pretty simple to me, and the mileage is a little shorter as well.

Does anyone have any opinions about the best route to take? :surfweb:

Hi DizFan13!

I looooooove flying into LGB! It's such an easy airport to travel to/from! :goodvibes

I used to live in Long Beach, and when I would commute to and from work, I took the Wardlow/Ball route. I definitely recommend it, because even during rush hour, it's still less congested than the freeways.

Plus, if the hotel that you're staying it has a fridge, you can stop at one of the grocery stores along the way and pick up some snacks/food/beverages on your way! :thumbsup2

Hope this helps!

Well, our hotel has a fridge, because of course we are at the HoJo!!! :goodvibes We are having Vons deliver though...but if there are convenient stores located on the way, maybe we could do that instead?

Thanks, Lorealle, for the feedback. That route simply couldn't be easier, and DH will be thrilled that his instinct is correct!

When we flew into LGB, we took the Wardlow/Ball route.

You will stop at a few traffic lights, but other than that, we didn't hit any traffic, and we made it to the HoJo in approx. 30 minutes.

Here's a link to a Google map.

HTH :earsboy:

Thank you SS, especially for the link! :thumbsup2 I am excited to know we can just get on one road and not mess with any interchanges.

We also took the Wardlow/Ball route, it really is a straight shot. There are a few stop lights, but not a big deal or time consumer. There were a few stop lights that I made sure the kids had their windows up and the doors were locked, but that may just be due to my paranoia and not knowing the area.
I would also guess about 30 mins, maybe a bit less of a drive.

If you want to have a nice drive that doesn't take too long just drive up PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) which is along the beach the entire drive from LGB to Huntington Beach, then from Huntington it's a 5-10 minute drive on the freeway :)

Does anyone know if there is an easy to access and reasonable grocery store along the Warlow/Ball route? I still have my Von's delivery scheduled, but it might be easier to just swing in along the way, especially if it is a more affordable store. ;)
