For my 40th birthday, which is coming up pretty soon, DH has agreed to take me to Las Vegas. I've never been there, or anywhere further west than Ohio. I really want to see the Pacific Ocean. Would it be too crazy to take a rental car from Vegas to the ocean?

Not crazy at all! Just a mere 5 or 6 hour drive. A straight shot down Interstate 15 until you get into the San Bernardino area, then you just hop onto the 10 or 60 Fwy to the 57 to the 5 to the 55 and that will take you all the way down to Newport Beach. It's very nice there. If you've always wanted to see the Pacific, I say GO FOR IT!!! You won't regret it. :teeth: Have dinner at Ruby's diner on the end of the Balboa pier - that way you can sit right over the water and feel it make the pier sway. ::yes:: Spend a night (you'll pass near Disneyland on the way there and back) and you'll be a-okay. Have fun!

Great idea! We took a rental car from Las Vegas to Texas :) It was BEAUTIFUL drive!!

Its definatly feasible if you have time- It would be a very long day trip and id definetly do it in 2 days at the least... and if you go to Newport/Long Beach area then you'll pass DL on the way :)

San Diego also has some gorgeous beaches :)

Thanks guys. I just might make it to that ocean before I die after all.:D

My husband & I were going to vacation in Phoenix and I suggested that seeing as we were just one state away...could I please get to the Pacific Ocean????

So we flew from CT to Phoenix got our rental car and drove to Disneyland all in the same day. I had never been to the west coast and it was always a dream of mine to see the pacific ocean...getting to Disneyland was just a super bonus!

I have pictures of me standing in the water with dolphins swiming right behind me. What a wonderful trip...enjoy yours!

Make sure that the rental car that you get doesn't have the restriction that it has to stay in Nevada. If you take some cars out of the state in which they are rented, they will charge you by the mile. Of course, if you make lots of money by gambling in Vegas, you will be able to afford it.

Sounds like a fun trip. :)

I went to Vegas for my 40th too. My vote would be skip Vegas, fly to San Francisco and drive south!

That does sound good, but DH has had his heart set on Vegas forever - so I guess between the ocean and the "strip", we'll both be happy.;)

Stay at Mandalay Bay! They have a wave pool that you can pretend is the Pacific!!!!;) :teeth: :bounce:

How about flying to the coast and then driving to/from Vegas?
I love the desert and you can stop and see some sights along the way!
Have fun!
