Driving from Halifax to WDW

This is March break prices. We usually go the week before and week of March break so the flight price to MCO isn't as horrendous as the return flight. The $2900 was Continental which we don't fly as much anymore. I prefer direct flights. We tend to go with Westjet and their flights during the March break season was high even when it first opened up. But I booked it because it was the preferred date and time. I will admit that leaving on a Thursday or Wednesday would be a little less but we prefer Saturdays. I get very nervous about waiting so I usually book when it opens up which generally gives me a great deal. I do include taxes and seat selection fees.

My range (so far) has been $2900 to $3400 from YHZ. And on our August trips, we usually drive to Maine and the flights are about less than half of that. And because there is no direct flight from YHZ in August and it's better driving weather (compared to March), we choose to drive then and maybe save a bit.

I agree March break is much higher and so is Friday and Saturday travel. There is something to be said for piece of mind when booking tickets it is definitely worth something. We tend to be fairly flexible with travel days so it definitely allows for some savings.

Every one is different, I know as much as I like a deal I don't think I would drive to US to fly. IMO it seems like to much of a hassle but I know lots of people who swear by it. Now if I still lived in Toronto flying out of Buffalo would be very tempting only a 2-3 hour drive would IMO be worth it.:goodvibes

We have done Disney 4 times in 4 years...we are in Moncton. Twice we have flewn out of Portland Maine. Flights the first 2 years were about $800 US for all 4 of us. The next year we flew out of Manchester NH flights were $900 (flights had gone up this year) and it was a direct flight. We figured too much driving! Especially when you just want to be home!
Last year we flew from Moncton, Continental has a great flight, goes into Newark airport. We got 4 flights for around $1600. Sounds like a lot, but when you calculate 2 nights of hotels for Maine meals, gas, and flights out of Maine or NH, it is around $1500 anyway. The convenience factor was WELL WORTH IT! (especially since we live about a 2 min drive from the airport!! Kids loved it!)

It was with Continental, out of Halifax.

Thanks.

I did notice that the quotes are weekdays. Generally, we need to go on Saturdays so I can't always get those great fares.

Also, this did remind of something. Last year our March break was 2 weeks in February and I did get better airfare then. I remembered mentioning to my husband that I wished our breaks were always in February since the flights were better priced. I also think that, for some reason, the airlines didn't take into account that some places in NS changed their break and so they didn't increase the flight prices for that time. Great for us!

Yeah, to get the better deals, you generally need to be flexible with the day of the week for departure and return. Time of year is usually also key, but there are deals even for high season too.

Sure wish I was going on another Disney vacation soon. Won't be doing Disney again for a few years. But, we are still travelling though, headed to Punta Cana tomorrow.... :woohoo:

Anyway, happy travels! :thumbsup2

Three friends and I are driving down in April. Because we are young (and also insane) we are doing it in one go. We're giving ourselves 42 hours to account for delays and rest stops. We're also packing a cooler full of sandwiches to reduce time spent stopping, especially at night. All four of us can drive, so we'll be switching out shifts as we go.

Are we insane? Yes. Will we hate our trip (and each other)? I hope not.

Any wisdom to impart in regards to driving in the US? Routes? Traffic around major cities? Ease of getting on and off the expressways for gas/food? Service stations? Peculiarities of the drive and how to get gas? Where to eat 24hours a day? Tricky areas and stretches of road?
