Driving from Dallas/Fort Worth

I love RocknRoller Coaster! Unfortunately, Brendan's not quite tall enough for that one yet... so we do the child swap. He loves the Goofy roller coaster at MK. We rode that one about 5 times in a row last summer while watching the fireworks show! That was pretty cool!

This will be his 3rd trip in 2 years. He loves it! I hope he can handle the long car ride, though... We've never driven that far with him before. We should have plenty to keep him busy, so hopefully it will be fine!

::yes::

OK, You guys are cracking me up!
I did a search on the boards (yeah, they are working!) for Dallas on the Transportation board and found this.
I live in FM too and for the first time am considering driving to WDW right after school gets out. Can you please update me on the drive and what your experience is?
I live off of Morriss by Marcus High School. I drive by your son's daycare every day on my backdoor route to downtown Dallas.

LOL! Another neighbor!

m&ms mom- now I've been getting to visit with Nebsky and MrBsmom in the mornings when we drop our boys off. We had 2 mini-DIS meets this week.:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

You should just pull over and join us!:teeth:

all together now....

Its a small world afterall....Its a small world afterall...

Uggh..now Im gonna go to sleep with that song in my head..

Drive should be alot easier now....We just got a new car today.
Mitsubishi Endeavor...

I think I have found the quickest way...Everyone that I have talked to says to go to Shreveport then take I49 to Lafayette, then take I10 to Baton Rouge then jump to I12 to skip New Orleans, then back to I10 to I75 in Florida. That mileage to the I10/I75 junction is 1001 miles from our house. That is the goal of the first day. Whether we make it that far remains to be seen, but only 20 days left.......YAHOO!!!!!

Ill let you know when we get back how the drive was...

We need another DIS Meet in DFW. My claim to fame is meeting Dan Murphy- yes, THE Dan Murphy- at a DIS meet at Grapevine Mills Mall in July on 2000. I was very new the DIS and he was/is very kind.
I am stuck in a perpetual quandary on the drive situation. My DH keeps threatening that we have taken our last WDW trip. I am in constant planning mode. You know, get back from 1 trip and start planning the next. We have gone to WDW about twice a year for the last 4 years. We will throw in a cruise etc. here and there but mostly its WDW. Anyway, to keep DH happy we have to agree to spend some time at the beach on the way down. Perdido Bay/Gulf Shores/Pensacola seems most likely but I just can't get it to work. If I leave DFW crack o'dawn I can't get to the beach by late evening and if we don't leave the next morning we are getting to WDW after dark. That's no fun.
If airfare would go down again I would just fly, but probably drive since we are bringing our niece and DMiL w/ us. I foot the bill and that would be about $1500.00 for airfare and about $500.00 if we drive. Pretty big difference.
Oh well- at least we get to go!
I'll honk next time I drive by the school!

FYI- I got roundtrip airfares DFW-MCO in December for less than $100 a leg.

(I know it doesn't fit with the kiddos' school schedules, but it's really nice for a "Mom running away to WDW by herself" trip!)

Maybe we need an April DIS meet... what do you guys think? And where- Grapevine Mills?

We've got Dallas, Ft. Worth and midcities folks that would probably join us.

(Oops... I'm really taking this off topic for the Transportation Board. Good thing none of the moderators are looking! :teeth: )

We also just booked airfare for December really cheap! It's going to be a short weekend trip with no kiddo! I think we got it for about $160 round trip/per person.... Then I finally found some vouchers we had, which took $115 off! Woo hoo!!

I live in Shreveport. We have taken the Jackson and Lafayette routes before. Flew once.

I recommend 1-20 to Shreveport, 1-49 to Lafayette, I-10 to 1-12 to 1-10 to 1-75. Then 1-75 to the FL turnpike. When we go through Jackson, the miles are just about the same, but the roads are not as good. Just try to avoid BR at rush hour.

When we leave after school, we stop just east of Mobile in Daphne. If we leave after work, we stop in Biloxi. If we leave in the morning, we can drive all the way or stop in Tallahassee (if we have to leave later in the AM).

It takes us 14 hours for the entire trip.

That's interesting Deb & Bill. DFW is only 3 hours-3.5 hours from Shreveport so if you add that to your 14 hours-that's not bad!
I would definitely be up for a DIS Meet.

Lewisville to WDW roadtrip this June!!!
When each of you get back, please let me know how your roadtrips worked out. This will be our very first one ever, and I'm a little nervous.
It's nice knowing I have some nearby Disney neighbors.

No problem...will do...Ill post a trip report in 3 parts..
Drive down....visiting the world....Drive back...

There are quite a few of us in the Flower Mound Lewisville area.
I saw another person from Lewisville just yesterday...
Cant remember his name but I know he writes as a pirate...
The "arr matey..."

Seems like a pretty good schtickt....

My goodness...I just noticed my counter...
In 1hr and 20 mins, Ill be in the Single digit dance mode...

I love the pirate guy.
The last trip report I read I was in hysterics!

Jeff- Have a great trip!!!!
I look forward to reading all about it.
