I will be leaving from CT driving to Disney's Hilton Head resort straight down 95 the Sunday before Labor Day. Any suggestions on what time to leave to get across the GW Bridge in a timely manner? :moped:

Can anyone give me good news like Sunday won't be the bad travel day Monday will? How about around DC?

Thanks

I try to get to the GW bridge around 9pm if at night or before 5am in the morning. Now on a Sunday you may be able to travel in the morning at a more normal time but the above times normally work great during the weekdays.

If you are traveling on a northern school vacation week (like the Friday before) you may want to adjust for later in the evening. I think the Friday before Labor day will be far worse than the Sunday.

When I leave MA in the afternoon, I usually have no traffic problems and will normally get to the GW by 9pm and fly thru the DC area around 2am and thru Richmond by 5-6am

For many years now, we have usually taken our annual trip to Disney leaving on the Saturday morning of Labor Day weekend and have never had a problem getting over the bridge. We don't usually leave until 6 or 7 am so we are usually traveling through there at 7 or 8 am. We haven't had a problem yet. I can't imagine that Sunday would be any different. At that time, I would think most people are already where they want to be for the holiday weekend and it's not yet time for them to leave for home, in most cases, so I don't think you will have a problem. In 2001, we left for Hilton Head on Sunday July 15 and had no problems. We left at 6:30 am and were at the Disney resort in Hilton Head at 7:30 that night, with just a couple of gas stops and a short lunch break.

Also, we usually don't have problems in DC when traveling on weekend days - we usually return on weekdays however, and that is a very different story. On the weekend days, we usually are able to just zip right through.

Thanks. I think we're going to try the EARLY a.m. method!

I work near the GW bridge on the Jersey side. I work on Sundays....When there is a 3 day w/e...the GW bridge is a breeze on Sundays. You wont have any problem at all.

DC has always been a MESS no matter what time of day or night or holiday or weekend or workday!
