Driving from Chicago

We are considering driving to The World in November. We live in the suburbs of Chicago. We'd like to do the drive in 2 days. Can anyone recommend a good place to stop for the first night? We'd like to be in the car longer on the first day, so we don't arrive at The World too late on the second day.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.:)

Thanks!!

It's about 6 hours from Atlanta GA to WDW on I 75. You can plan accordingly.

I'd recommend Morrow, Georgia, in Atlanta's south suburbs. It would put you beyond Atlanta so you would not have to contend with morning rush hour. There are quite a few hotels and restaurants at that exit.

we usually stop in Dalton GA, ( just N of Atlanta ) to get a decent nights sleep...but it can take up to 8 hours to get to WDW...we made it to Valdosta one time, that was a long first day, but short 2nd day drive...under 5 hours I think. We take I-55 to 24-75...all the way own Illinois, quick trip thru Kentucky and TN...then GA. We prefer this over the I-65 route thru Indy..less trucks, traffic...a lot of rest stops along 57 ( and police ;)) It all depends on how early a start we get...anything before 4 am is golden, and we can get to Valdosta...anything after 6...traffic kicks in, just not as efficient. Remember, in November you will not have as much daylight, consider that when estimating heading thru Chattanooga...even in Nov ice storms can pop up...we like to get thru there before sunset even on a late start.

I agree with Dalton, GA. You could conceivably make it all the way to Atlanta, but that's a tough drive in one day.

There are also lots of hotels near the interstate, so you won't waste a lot of time going to and from the highway.

I would get past Atlanta for sure. We stop in Perry or Adel Ga. The next day is only about 5-6 hours.

We've driven from SW Michigan many years with a camper to WDW. About 1,200 miles.

We would get on the road about 3:30 am and then stop for the night in Tifton, GA ... that left about 4 hrs to WDW the next day.

On the way home, we'd be on the road by 6:00 am (7:00 am is too late if you are driving during a busy time!! Traffic bottlenecks with those coming up from Tampa.) and then stop for the night in Elizabethtown, KY. Then about 6 hrs to home the next day.

Just a thought ... how many are in your party? Have you checked the airfares? There are some really, really low fares out there right now and it may be cheaper to fly. Consider the hotel cost enroute, gas, tolls, and wear-and-tear on the car. Plus you save yourself a day of travel each way.

Something to think about vs driving.
