Can anyone tell me what is the best way to get from DLR to LAX during the morning rush hour? We are renting a car - on the way in we are not going to be driving in rush hour so we will just use the gps and go. On they way home I expect we will be stuck as we need to leave the hotel around 7:00am. So I need an alternate route and a back up plan.
THANKS

Even with traffic, your best route to DLR from LAX is below:

Getting from LAX Airport to the Disneyland Resort Transportation Information on the DIS (wdwinfo.com)

Driving to the Disneyland Resort
To get to the hotels on Harbor Drive: From the rental places, drive south to Century Blvd, and turn left (east). Get in your right lane, and on Aviation, turn right (south). Get in the left lane. (About 1.5 miles will be a restaurant called Proud Bird - if you're hungry, get a bite to eat here. It's a nice restaurant.)

Turn left (east) on Imperial Hwy - it will be the big street after Proud Bird.

As soon as you turn left, get in the right lane, and get on the 105 fwy going east. Get in the carpool lane, and take this freeway all the way to the end. Take the 605 fwy south & stay in the right lane. About 2 miles down you'll hit the 91 fwy east. Get in the carpool lane and stay there until you get to the 5 fwy south. Use the carpool lane to get on the 5 south.

To get to the Disneyland Resort Hotels: Stay in the carpool lane on 5 fwy and take the carpool lane exit to Disneyland Drive (very convenient). Turn left when you get off of the freeway. There will be a gas station on your right side (corner of Disneyland Drive & Ball). Stay on your right lane or you will end up in the theme park parking structure. Disneyland and Paradise Pier hotels will be on the right side of the street, and the Grand Californian will be on the left side, across the street from the Paradise Pier Hotel.

To get to the Good Neighbor Hotels on Harbor Blvd: Stay in the carpool lane until you see Euclid, and then edge over. Go past the Disneyland Drive exit. The next exit is Harbor. Turn right on Harbor. Disneyland will be on your right & you'll see the Matterhorn, Space Mountain, Monorail track... The Harbor hotels will be on your left, but are blocked by an island. Go past many hotels until you get to a left turn lane that will let you make a U-turn.
To get to the hotels on Katella, you can exit at either Disneyland Drive or Harbor Blvd.

Transportation Info Add transportation when you book a stay at the Disneyland Resort through Dreams Unlimited Travel
Arriving travelers have a variety of methods of transportation available. You can get to your choice of transportation from an island that runs the length of the airport. Each terminal has pick-up spots and above those spots are color-coded signs that state the type of transportation that stops there:
- Airport Shuttle (blue sign) >> Takes you to the different terminals and the nearby Metro station on Imperial Hwy
- Rental Cars (purple sign)
- SuperShuttle (orange sign) >> There is usually a person in a blue coat from SuperShuttle at the stop. SuperShuttle vans can carry 7 people, and will drop you off at your hotel at the Anaheim Resort area.

- Disneyland Resort Express (green sign) >> This shuttle is decorated in blue with Disneyland all over it. You will watch a Disney movie until the shuttle drops you off. Departures from LAX run from 6am - 12am, with pick-ups every hour on the hour, starting at Terminal 1, and making its way to each terminal. Between 10am - 7pm pick-ups are every 30 minutes. Return transfers from the hotel to the airport begins at 5am, with the last departure from Anaheim to LAX at 9pm. Return shuttles run hourly.

LAX Airport (Click to go to LAX website for more information)
The LAX Airport is located at the western edge of the Los Angeles area, next to the Pacific Ocean. There are 7 terminals, and the airport is U-shaped. The terminals have two levels - arrivals and departures, so people departing will drive on the upper level, and people arriving will drive on the lower level. There are plenty of directional signs so you won't get lost.

The 105 will take you straight to the airport.

These directions sound more complicated than they really are. It is the most direct way to LAX. My guess is that mapquest would send you this way, so you might want to check it out. Since it sounds like you are not terribly familiar with the area, I would stick the freeways to avoid getting lost on surface streets. Rush hour may have you stuck in some traffic, but at least you know you are not wandering in unfamiliar territory and possibly "sketchy" areas.

Edit: Hey Mary Jo, I see we had the same idea, although you are much more thorough. :)
