If anyone is driving through Knoxville on I-75 over the next couple of months ... BEWARE! They are doing construction near Knoxville and there are delays up to one hour. If anyone wants detour info or more up to date info on which direction is currently affected.. feel free to PM me.

They are changing directions at some point but currently the south bound lanes are impacted.

Work is always being done on 40 too but if there aren't any accidents, delays aren't too bad. Just watch your speed!

Smart Fix 40 has been going on for some time now and has a few more years to go. If you think it is bad now just wait until they close I-40 through downtown to widen it and all the traffic has to be rerouted onto I-640/75, I think that is slated for summer of 2007.

Is 75 a freeway I would take? I am coming from Ohio. Somehow, we go 77 south, and eventually we take 95 south but I don't know if there is a 75 we take in between those two. Man, Gotta get my triptik from AAA this week.

Anyone know best route from Ohio this month?

I-77 to 95 is a fine way to go, I-75 is further west, so unless you are closer to it 77 is you're best choice.

Thanks! I remember when we got our AAA triptik last year, we were offered to routes down. We chose the 77 to 95 one,I am pretty sure. We had no idea what route to take, and the AAA employee told us it was 6 on 1, half a dozen on the other. We still don't know what "the other" route was, though.

Thanks, OP, for letting me jump in here!! I guess the 75 thing doesn't mess up our drive at all.

Question for the OP:

I read that Construction on I 75 around Exit 112 (Emory Road) can be back up for up to 7 miles. do you recommend an alternat route to 640 East? I am heading southbound on 75

Laz,

I'm going to attempt directions. Please let me know if this doesn't make sense (anyone else feel free to improve on them). You can PM me if you need further clarification.

I-75 South
Take Exit 122 Clinton/Norris Exit. Turn right onto Charles Seviers Blvd towards Clinton.

Approx. 5.5 miles there will be Fox Toyota on your right at a stop light. Turn left and go over the bridge (you will be on Clinch Ave). This will eventually turn into Clinton Hwy. Stay on this road approx 10.5 miles until you see Kroger/Target on your left. You will turn left between Target and Lowes onto Callahan Road, you will be going back towards I-75 and can get back on off of Callahan. You will have missed the construction and this is before you get to 640 so you will be ok.

If you don't take Exit 122, the next exit is Racoon Valley Road and you take a good, good chance of already being in the traffic backup before then.

I travel this way to work every morning so I think it's your best bet.
Hope it helps.

I just checked your route on mapquest, and it seems pretty straight forward.

I also check Tenn. road construction, and it says this is suppose to be cleared up by this Thursday. Is this true?

I have no idea. The news yesterday said they anticipated having both sides completed by 9/30 so I'm not counting on them being through as soon as Thursday. I would be really, really happy if they are though.

There are a lot of restaurants etc on the route I'm sending you. It might be a good time to take a break. Hope everything goes well.

They just started the construction on I-75 this week so you are right, Sat was clear. However, they WILL be halting work for the weekend (heard it this morning) and starting back on Monday, looks like they will be working on the Northbound lanes next week. Good news for weekend travelers!

Thanks for the help. I am going that way Friday, and I hope they are not working. But at least I am prepared!
