Anyone do this as of late and have a report on road construction, delays, etc.?

I just drove Atlanta to Orlando this past week. I'm assuming you're taking I-75 to the Turnpike? Going down was worse than coming back. There were several areas around Macon that were down to one lane. (this was on the Macon bypass, which you should still take b/c even w/construction it is faster than going straight through Macon) Even driving down on a weeknight, we still ran into some backed up traffic. We didnt' sit for hours or anything like that, but it definitely slowed us down some. That was the only area that I recall being a problem. Once you get closer to Valdosta, it was smooth sailing the rest of the way. Just remember, that once you hit Florida there is nothing for quite a while. Take the bathroom break before you cross the state line!

If you are going on the weekend it seems not that bad. We drove thru on Saturday it wasn't bad occasional lane closed, but it was never down to 1 lane. Saturday 11/8 was worse than Sunday 11/2 on Sunday there was basically no contruction and everything was wide open. I have heard it gets bad on weekdays though. Up here in WI contruction season overwith and driving thru that area I am so glad it is.

We're driving from Kansas City and were planning on stopping for the night in Macon, but after reading some of the posts I'm not sure if we shouldn't stop in atlanta . Is the turnpike a different route than 75? Does the turnpike avoid macon?

If you can get through Atlanta, I would go ahead and do it. Traffic in that town is a nightmare. Plus you'll get a cheaper hotel in the Macon area than you'd ever find in the Atlanta area.

The bypass is called 475. It takes you around Macon and then dumps back into 75. If you stay on 75, you'll go through Macon.
So if you decide to stop in Macon, stay on 75. If you decide to stop elsewhere, take 475. If you look at it on a map, it will make more sense.

ok, I did find a best western right off 75 in macon. How bad will the traffic and construction be on a sunday morning? Is it really about 7 hours from macon to WDW? We want to be able to check in and make our dinner PS. Thanks so much for the info.

I don't know if they'll be working on construction then or not, but we got from WDW to the other side of Atlanta in 7 hours, including 2 stops. But I think we drove rather fast. But inless you drive below the speed limit, you should make it from Macon in less than 7. I'd say it's no more than 5 hours.
