I know everyone is probably sick to death of love bug questions but most threads deal with love bugs at the resorts and parks and I really am interested in how to deal with them while driving. DH and I will be driving down from Ontario via I75 in September and I have a couple questions.

1. I read that you shouldn't use windshield washer fluid and try to wipe them off your windshield with your wipers, so how do you deal with them on the windsheild? Will we have to stop regularily and scrap them off :scared:

2. I understand that you are not suppose to leave love bugs squished on your car for very long but I also read that a car wash doesn't work to get them off, you actually have to do it yourself. So if I'm going to be away from home for a week do I need to find somewhere near WDW to wash the van myself when we arrive? Where would I do that?

3. Any general tips on dealing with them while driving?

Thanks for the help!

I have used my wipers to clean them off but it doesn't fully clean the spot when you stop for gas go to a gas station that you can wipe the windshield w/. The problem w/ lovebugs being left on the car is that they stain the paint w/ that being said I have used a mr clean magic eraser and have been able to get some of it off of my car. I don't really know as far as where to bring it to have it washed since the only area I am familiar w/ disney's grounds when we are there we never travel outside of the parks and resorts.

A common tactic we use here in FL is to spray a light coat of WD-40 on the front of the car,, bumper leading edge of the hood, ect.... they wipe right off..... and the WD-40 washes away with a normal washing.....

Thanks for the advice. DH is saying now that he thinks we'll just buy a "bra" for the van and then not worry about it. I just go along with whatever he decides :lmao:

Thanks for the information :thumbsup2 Anyone else have any tips?

I asked at the dealership, when I took my Mazda in for service last week, and one of the service guys said try plain water and dryer (fabric softener) sheets. I tried it, and it seemed to work better than other things I have tried. Still had to scrub the worst spots pretty well, but did not seem to scratch the clear coat.

There is a Hess gas station/car wash somewhere near the Pop Century resort, & we went thru it every day of our 10 day trip last May. Most of the lovebugs were washed right off.

There are products at auto part stores (or department store auto section). That will remove bugs. Some of them will be called (love) bug remover or just heavy-duty degreaser. Get a sponge too. I'd try to find a car wash at your destinaton and do a little pre-wash first. Car washes usually need help with those bugs.
