Today was the great push to Orlando.
It would be a very long day. But everyone figured a few extra hours of driving was better than missing a day of Disney, not to mention seven hours of load/unload time.
I don’t remember too many specifics. Watched some movies, played Disney Trivia.
The anticipation was palpable. We were actually going to make it! My excitement grew when I saw the telltale palm trees with hangy down moss. We were almost there.
Time to whip out the instructions to the house we rented. Take the turnpike…okay….oh, my heck! What is all this construction. And traffic?!
You are totally ruining the climax of the drive.
It took an hour and a half to go thirty miles. Finally, we reached Davenport, punched in the access code to the gated community, got turned around, got unturned around, and pulled up to the beautiful vacation home.
We arrived at the house late about 9:00 on July 16. We were all very tired and very happy to finally be there.
Of course we had to explore. Note: All pictures were hurriedly taken the day we left-thus the wrong date
When you came in to the right were some very cute drawings of a giraffe and zebra.
To the left was a bedroom with queen bed and bathroom. This would be Grandma’s room.
Straight ahead and against the wall on the right was a table with CDs and information on all the activities around.
To the left of the table was a very spacious kitchen with a counter and bar stools.
One of my favorite things in the kitchen was the Mickey telephone. Adjoining the kitchen was a mini dining room with table and chairs.
If you went straight from the table you hit the living room complete with couch, chairs, and entertainment cabinet (we never opened it so I am not sure what it had).
The whole back wall from the dining room across the living room was glass sliding doors to a pool. The pool even had a lift to transfer people in wheelchairs.
Off the living room was the master bedroom. It had a king bed and room to transfer from a wheelchair on both sides. One wall was a glass door leading to the pool. The bathroom was fully accessible featuring toilet with grab bars, roll in shower with built in seat, roll under sink, and special closet. Mom and Dad would stay here.
From the entrance, there was a hallway to the right that lead to two more bedrooms, laundry room, and bathroom.
I fell in love with the Mickey bedroom.
Wallpaper, pictures, wall hangings all screamed DISNEY!!! I felt this incredible surge of happiness and just smiled. I can’t believe we are here! The Mickey room had two single beds. The other room was a Safari bedroom with two single beds.
Originally Danielle and I were going to share the Mickey room but we had too much equipment. After seeing my excitement over the room, Danielle graciously let me stay with Mickey.
The bathroom had grab rails for the padded toilet but no room to park by the toilet. It would work well for people who do stand and pivot transfers with assistance. The bathtub had the showerhead and a lowered side.
Grandma was in awe over the house. I thought it was pretty cool, too. Only $1000 a week.
As we were all gawking, Dad was dragging in all of our stuff.
Oh yeah.
We have to unpack.
The whole RV.
Everything.
We didn’t get to bed until 3:00 AM.
But we were all happy to be at our home for the next two weeks in West Haven, the Abbey, Davenport, Florida.
