On a scale of one to Clampett, how would you rate "camping" in someone's driveway?

We are combining a camping trip with a visit to the in-laws for our vacation. (I know in-laws and vacation should rarely be included in the same sentence :rotfl: )

The inlaws have offered to have us plug in at their house for the 3 nights we will be there. I am leaning toward politely declining and finding a local campground.

So give your opinion. Camping in a driveway; a great way to save a few bucks to save for next year's Disney trip or tacky as heck? Note: This is a regular house in the suburbs not country acreage.

Nothing wrong with this as long as local ordinances allow it. Only your in-laws can be the judge of how their neighbors will react, if they see no problem I would say go for it.

My sister's neighborhood they call the cops and write a citation after one overnight, no trailers allowed per the neighborhood organization and regulations.

We do at our son and daughter-in-law's fairly regularly. Even have a 30 amp plug in the garage. They did however ask the neighbors just to be sure none would be upset.

We've actually been there as long as two weeks(new grandaughter), that way they can send us or we can go to "our room" if the need arises. Grand kids enjoy knocking on Grumpy and Grandma's door in the morning. We do however use the inside facilities as much as possible so we don't have a full tank..

I've been driveway camping in my own driveway just about every weekend since April. I think the neighbors think my wife and I are fighting.

i say "go for it". look at this way, if the kids don't want to do something, you can still do it. if the in-laws will watch them for the night. you still have your own space. i say you will be fine.

Thanks for the feedback, all...Now I just need tips on how to convice the kids that IN and central IL are just as fun as Disney World.

My parents do this at our house all the time! We all love it. Like having a guest house. The kids are in and out of the RV all day. Then we all have our privacy in the evening. Our neighbors don't mind. But the RV is only here for a few days at a time.

I forgot to add earlier, my T@B sits in the driveway all the time, plugged in. In front of the house. I don't have anywhere else to keep it and fortunately there are no laws being broken as it is 'in' the driveway, not parked on the street. I have my own campouts out there sometimes if I don't have time to go anywhere!:thumbsup2

I was out there today cooling off between mowing sections of the yard, you can get it nice and chilled in there. Turn on the stereo and rock out with a cool beverage, then go mow some more.

Aint nutt'n wrong with driveway camp'n,go for it, :thumbsup2.

I driveway fish all the time (practice casting),
at first my neighbors thought I was just nutz,
now they know I am, but have learned to live with it.

My parents don't really have neighbors, kind of, but, not really close. Anyway, they have a huge outdoor shed thing they had built, it houses their motorhome, my brother's 5th wheel, 3 poop haulers, and my Dad's HHR he tows behind the Motorhome. As well as the bikes, etc. So, my Dad's motorhome stays plugged up all the time, as well as the satellite hooked up.

When we pulled into their house today to see them after they had been on vacation for a week, I was so jealous....I wanted to go sit in their motorhome! (Can you tell I am dying to go camping!!!)

I had just returned from my IL's and we all slept horribly! I would have given anything to be driveway camping at their house!

Enjoy!

Go for it. I think it's a great idea. I wish we would do it when we visit my mother's house but her driveway is not level enough to do it. I would much prefer to sleep in my "home" rather than her's. Using the camper allows everyone to have their personal space when they want it.

It will save the proplem of driving back & forth and will keep you out of their way most of the time. We used to do it regularly at some of my relative's houses & they liked it. We still came inside to shower in the morning unless it was like a 2 day stay.

You should just do it. The kids (depending on their ages) might even think it is neat camping in the grandparents driveway. This past Christmas we pulled our TT in the front yard (much closer to the house then the other side of the garage where it usually lives) and put my DS's and my niece and nephew in it for 5 nights. It was snowy and blowy and freezing on the walks into the house, but the kids loved it :) And this was our only option other then sending the visiting family's to hotels (and they really wanted to stay at the house and we have a very tiny house, under 800 sq.). The neighbors laughed and gave us grief, but it worked.

We do driveway parking at the in-laws....we park down at the pole barn, we have full hook-up :) it's nice because I can retreat to my "home" when I'm tired of....:rolleyes1 ...I love my in-laws (5 x's fast) ;) ....we do this several times a year because we own property that joins theirs so we go up quad/dirt bike riding and hunting, but don't want to stay in the house and disrupt them.
