Hi all. Just a quick question. I recall a while ago a thread about those of us driving in Florida requiring an international permit, which isnt needed anywhere else. Is this true? anyone with recent experience?

That thread was a bit old so just wondering if anyone had an update. Those international license from RACV etc, always been a waste of money previously.

Thanks.

I think I remember that discussion. I also remember that the rule was repealed.

I think I went looking for my September trip last year and found this on the Canadian site.

FWIW -We didn't end up driving in Florida on the last trip; so I cannot provide first-hand information as to whether the IDL was required or not for Australians. But given that it's not needed for the Brits or the Canadians, its a good bet that the Aussie DL will be sufficient. We drove in California, Arizona, Utah and Colorado last year just with the Aussie DL. No issues in any of those states.

As long as your drivers licence is in English a permit is not required. I confirmed this with our car hire provider for our trip coming up.

Awesome thanks for the quick response. 24 days to go and making sure I,ve got everything organized .:yay:

I've rented a car in Florida last year and can confirm you don't need anything additional to your driver's license. We booked through Nova car hire, got a really good discount, car was upgraded when we arrived and we probably didn't save much money vs taking taxis and shuttles but the time we saved driving ourselves around was priceless.

We hired a car in Florida last July through Alamo. Only needed to show my Australian driver's licence. The process was very easy and we got to pick from a range of cars within the size range we had booked. The drop off was super easy too. We will definitely use them again for our next trip!
