We are cruising in May, planning on using a birth cert. and DL. My DL expires in June. Thought I read before about ID having to be good for a certain amount of months after cruise to be considered acceptable?

No. If you're talking about a Caribbean cruise, as long as the ID is valid at the time of re-entry to the US, you're fine.
