Drive time from Carlsbad in the am

We'll be driving up on Tues, December 9 from the south side of Carlsbad. I'd like to arrive around 8:15-8:30 in the morning. Anyone know how terrible traffic typically is and approximately how much time I should allocate?

Traffic could be pretty bad at that time of the morning, especially through Mission Viejo and Irvine. If you have to be there by 8:15, I would probably leave a lot earlier, like 6:00, and then have breakfast or something there with the extra time. Under normal no-traffic circumstances, it should take about an hour. On a weekday morning in rush hour, I would allocate 2 to be sure.

DCA opens at 9 that day, I was hoping to make it to opening, but there's no way we could get out the door by 6. Plus that would make for an incredibly looooong morning, as hotel check in isn't until 3. So, would there be much difference in traffic if we left around 730 or 8?

Rush hour is approx. from 7 - 9 around here. If you left around 8:30, it would be starting to clear up but then you won't make it to opening.

Carpool lane!!! yay!! We live in Vista and have made this drive many times. We leave at 7 for a 9am opening. You should be fine. Have a great trip.
