Drive or take buses to parks?

Staying at AS Movies in August.. We are renting a car for the week. Is it easier to take the buses, or to drive to and from the parks??

I'm thinking the buses are the way to go!!! The buses provide curb to curb service (so to speak). If you drive, you'll park in the large lots, then wait for a shuttle. In Magic Kingdom, from the shuttle you then have to grab a monorail or ferry to get to the park. Uggh. :3dglasses

We drive to the parks in our car, except for the Magic Kingdom, where we take the bus. Driving just seems easier to us, since you are on your own schedule and don't have to wait on a bus coming or going. However the Magic Kingdom is different because when you drive there, you are still waiting on different forms of transit to get you to the gate.

There are pros and cons to each but our vote would be for driving also, even to the Magic Kingdom. We've found that while the buses provide great service, having a car is much better - our experience has been it takes much less time to wait for the tram to get to our car and drive back to the resort than it does to wait for a bus, especially at park closing when you're standing in the bus line waiting for a bus (or sometimes three or four before you can get on). I also believe that the All Stars resorts share a bus between them, so you most likely also have to stop at the other resorts to pick up and drop off guests will increase your travel time.

Thanks for your help! It probably is better to drive! Going with a 4 year old on the buses will probably be a nightmare!

a lot of people use disney transportation with kids. there are cases for and against driving... i f you are going to the parks at open, or will be leaving at closing... buses are better.

to and from magic kingdom, buses are better.

Especially at closing - they really pack the buses and you may not get a seat and have to stand the entire way back to the resort. With a tired 4 year old (as well as tired Mom and Dad), I'd vote for driving too. There was one morning we were going to take the bus to Extra Magic Hours at the Magic Kingdom and the line was so long to get on the bus that early in the morning that we just turned around and took the car.

It's personal preference but after walking around the park all day, the last thing I want to do is stand in another line to get on a bus then stand on the bus all the way back to the resort. For us, a car much more convenient.

One other thing we like, too, is if it is earlier in the day when we are leaving the park, sometimes we may want to stop somewhere else on our way back to the resort. If you are on a bus, you have to go all the way back and then get the car. It doesn't happen often but a few times we have visited other resorts after we've left a park or stopped at DTD and it was nice to just go there.

This is another reason we always drive and one reason we often drive to Magic Kingdom even though there's more transferring involved.
