Drive on a Friday afternoon

Hello, everyone. On Friday the 21st, we are going to be at UCLA for my son to take a tour and meet with an adviser. Since the tour starts at 2:15, I think we will be there until after 4pm. We will be driving straight from there to the HoJo, and I am wondering if anyone can give me suggestions on the best route to take in order to avoid traffic as much as possible? I am very clear on the fact that we will probably end up neck deep in it, that time of day, but I am hoping that someone with a lot of local driving experience might have some ideas for me. I'd also love to hear how long those drivers would except the drive to take.

I am so glad we are squeezing in some DLR time the next day! I just want to make everything as easy and smooth as possible. :goodvibes

I'd probably pass on the 10 and keep going till the 105->605->91. It isn't going to be pretty but I think you'll find it better than heading towards downtown. Ideally, someone can look up traffic on their phone. You have a few freeway choices and could always change on the fly. If you take a look on sigalert.com you can see what the traffic is like around the time you want to leave. Friday is normally a little lighter.

Thank you both so much for the help. I will have the kiddo on his phone looking for updates and use that route! :thumbsup2

Sadly, there really is no "avoid the traffic" route from LA. The above routes are the way to go, but it is going to be a S L O W drive, especially at that time on a Friday. My best advice? Good tunes and discussion. :goodvibes

Not to harp on the point... I know it will be a long drive, but since you are the people who know the drive, if you had to guess, or if you were planning for yourselves, how long would you think it will take?

(of course my point being whether or not it's worth it to up the passes...if we could get into DL for dinner and maybe even Fantasmic!, I think I might want to ;))

Without traffic you're looking at usually a little over an hour or so. At the time you are going, I'd say to PLAN on two hours. It might not take that long, but there is a chance it will.

Well that is actually a bit relieving. I was hoping for around two hours, so I have no problem planning for that! if it goes over or under, we will just go with the flow. Thanks!

I agree with this route too. Note: the 105 and a portion of the 91 both have Carpool lanes. During Friday rush hour, they will be slow too, but definitely a good option for those freeways.

I've driven from Burbank to DLR during Friday rush hour several times and its averaged 1 and 1/2 hours pretty much each time. When I mapped UCLA to DLR using the freeways above, it's almost the same distance as my preferred route from Burbank (42.9 vs 43.7 miles). I think two hours is the maximum time it will take you folks--barring any major traffic incidents.

Good luck next week and have a great visit at Disneyland!
