Drive from Orange Tree ~ How Bad is it??

We've just booked a villa in Orange Tree. I realize it's not right next door, but it doesn't look too far. Am I going to have a horrendous drive, or will it be doable? Any shortcuts? Oh and another silly question...when I look at the interactive map of the hwy's http://www.kissimmee-us192.com/map/map2/kiss192map2.htm it looks like all these restaurants are right on the side of the hwy? Or are there exits? I know I must sound daff, but I've been on this computer for too long and I swear I feel my brain turning to mush from overload!!! The freeways here are so different than what I remember from our last and only time in Orlando. We actually got lost a few times just trying to find MK from Fort Wilderness!! So I feel like I had better get detailed routes printed out for this trip.

Thanks ! Julie

Orange Tree isn't too bad at all.

Once you hit the 192/27 junction, you're going to go North on the 27.

At rush hours, that ramp can get a little backed up. So if you're planning on supper back at the villa, leave the parks at 3:30-4pm.

At the first set of lights, there's the big 24 hour WalMart, and all along for the next 2 sets of lights, there's the regular fast food places, and pharmacies.

Stay in the right hand lane, and Orange Tree is past the 3rd set of lights -where you'll see a Walgreen's, CVS, etc.

And yes, most of the restaurants on the 27N are on the right hand side:)

HTH!!

Thank You so much! I sure do appreciate your help! I don't plan on doing much cooking, so we won't have to worry about that traffic thankfully...but It's nice to know that we have so many choices right on the way to and from WDW!

I live about a minute from Orange Tree and work at the Wilderness Lodge. During afternoon traffic, I can get to work in about 1/2 hr. Coming home at midnight is about 22 minutes.

suzannews: Really, 22 minutes at midnight??? That's longer than I had thought. The house that we rented lists it as only 10minutes from Disney. Oh well....guess I'm gullible. But that's okay...Part of the fun is getting to know the area, huh?

If you have any hints, or fav restaurants around there, I'd love to hear about them.

Thanks! :)

Julie

You're welcome:)

10 minutes...?? No...well, it would be 10 minutes once you're out of your development, on the 27, all green lights, *no* traffic, and only to the Sherbeth Road entrance.

It can take 10 minutes to get from the Animal Kingdom to the Magic Kingdom, easily.

Our fastest trip to the Parks last February (we stayed at Glenbrook, at that 3rd set of lights) was 17 minutes from the lights at our sub-division to the parking lot entrance of MGM studios.

Ask me how I know that??
That would be my father - he likes to tabulate that kind of stuff:teeth:

I can dream...but if you knew my husband's knickname (red-light daddy), you know that there's no way that dream is comin true!!

Oh my dad did that stuff too!! Had his trip counter on, his little compass on the dashboard, and his stopwatch! Oh I miss him! Those things drove me nuts when I was a kid, now I'd give anything to have him and all those funny quirks back. Thanks for the great memory!

Its closer to 10-15 minutes to the edge of Disney property, near Animal Kingdom but I drive to the Wilderness Lodge.

You will pass lots of restaurants on the way, mostly chain types and fast food so you will have your pick. A really good pizza place though is on 27, right before the Walgreens, only about 2 minutes from Orange Tree. They just changed names so I think the new name is New York pizza club or something like that. Eat in or carry out, we've never had a bad meal/pizza from there.

For grocery shopping, stop at the Publix on 192 right before you merge onto 27 or the Wal Mart that is about 1/2 mile north on 27 from 192. Stay far far away from the Winn Dixie alittle further up on 27.

Please please tell me that it's still Pasquale's though...they've just changed their name, right?

The Wedding Soup is delish, too...and the calzones...oh my

Any particular reason?

...couldn't be a bad "hedda lettuce", was it..???
;);)

Sorry, silly joke, just couldn't resist:teeth:

It was Pasquale's. New owner and new name but the food is the same, we haven't noticed a difference at all.

I think the Winn Dixie is very dirty and you have to check the expiration dates on everything you buy. Last time I was in there, which was about 6 months ago, the granola bars and the cheese were both expired.

I've never bought produce there so I don't know if there was a bad "heada lettuce" or not but I wasn't sticking around to find out!! :) :) :)

spiceycat... that map is great..i put it in my favs. Thanks! The only prob is it sure does make Orange Tree look like it's out in the Boonies!! Honestly, if i had seen this map before reserving the house, I may have kept looking for something a tad closer. Oh well. Serves me right for not checking on the Dis before booking a house! When will I ever learn? Planning gets me so antsy...I just don't think clearly. I'm sure it will still be fine, after all I live in Los Angeles county...how bad can it be compared to the driving here!!!:)

It will be a snap :thumbsup2

We live in a *very* rural area, as in our kids were thrilled the first time we sat in a "traffic jam" in Orlando :teeth:

LOL!

...and memories are why every year, my parents say:

"Oh, we're not going to do the parks this time with you.."

...and every year, where are they?
Hoofin' up Main Street USA with us :teeth:

Thanks for the reminder of just how precious that is :goodvibes
