Drive from Carlsbad to SW and SDZ?

How bad is this drive, the hotel I'm looking at states 35 miles to SDZ. I want to know time to drive it in the morning for park openings, and back after a day at the park. Thanks!

I would allow at least an hour both ways. If Sea World doesn't open until 10:00 and you leave at 9:00 you might make it in 40 minutes - I'm not sure when the southbound morning traffic lets up. If you leave Sea World or the Zoo anytime in the afternoon after 2:30-3:00 you're going to have traffic going back to Carlsbad - and the later you leave, the worse it will be. If you leave at 5:00 it'll probably take you over an hour to get back to Carlsbad. This is on weekdays - on weekends it's not so bad.
