I'm new to cruising and have read on these boards that soda is not included. Is it included at meals, or not at all. What drinks are included at non meal times. What about snacks at non meal times? Thanks:)

On most other cruiselines, soda is not an included drink.

On DCL sodas from the drink station and at meals are included. Sodas from the lounges/bars and poolside servers have a cost.

The drink station is open 24/7. They have sodas (diet & regular) lemonade or fruit punch, water, milk, coffee, tea (hot & cold). At meals just ask you server for what you want. Alcoholic drinks always have a cost.

There are several quick serve food locations on the pool deck, pizza, hot dogs, burgers, chicken strips (yummmmmm), wraps, fruit, ice cream, and more I can't remember. These are all included in the fare.

Extra pay food would be at the adult only restaurants (Palo-$20 pp/Remy-$75pp).

Are there any special drinks you can get at dinner that are free (Shirley Temples, milkshakes, etc)?

Room service will charge for packaged snacks or drinks in a bottle or can (water, soda, etc.). They have fruit/cheese trays and other snack or meal items that are free, but they expect a tip when it's delivered.

The Mickey Ice Cream Bars, they are free too right?

I know on our Alaskan cruise last year my DIL's sister always had Shirley Temples at dinner and they did not charge. Just don't tell your server you love them with lots of cherries!!! They will comply!!!!

Basically, if a bartender needs to mix it or blend it, there's a charge (i.e. smoothies, virgin daquaris/coladas, etc.) Non-alcoholic soda based drinks (i.e. the Shirley Temple) are free.

Mickey Bars are free, too, but since they come from room service, you'll need to tip the waiter. However, you can request them for dessert in the MDRs. They're not on the menu, but they'll bring them. They're absolutely free then.

BTW, DCL serves Coca Cola products. If you prefer other brands, you need to bring them onboard with you or make do without.

My kid had a Mickey Bar practically every night after dinner in the MDR.

My kids also asked for cherry cokes and had those with dinner every night, with LOTS of cherries!!!

Mickey bars were also a frequently requested item by my kids at dinner, they even put a little chocolate syrup and sprinkles on them. One night my son bit into the ear and it fell off the stick and our server brought another one out right away!

All I could think the whole time was these things cost how much in the Disney parks?!?!?! and technically they are free on the cruise, after we pay the cruise fare of course......

What options for (free) non-alcoholic drinks, other than
Shirley Temples, are there (for children, teens)?
Thanks!

Sounds like they have Cherry syrup and Grenadine. Anyone know of any others? Vanilla?

I don't know much about drinks as I don't drink but it would be fun to have some different flavored Diet Coke.

Does anyone happen to be a tea drinker and know what brand/variety they have at the 24hr area? thanks

They did have PG Tips at Topsiders Buffet, but NOT in the 3 main dining rooms. If you had a brand of tea that you cannot do without, bring it in a small baggie.
The brand they use in the dining rooms is Twinings.

Yes, DCL allows you bring onboard whatever (and however many) beverages you wish. Whatever you bring onboard must be carried on, not in your checked bags.

Really? Could we bring bottles of wine or is it just water etc?

Is it sad that I'm trying to decide between my laptop and a couple bottles of wine? LOL

You may bring onboard whatever you want, sodas, water, alcohol.

This is from the DCL website:

Beverage Policy
Question
What is the policy regarding bringing alcoholic beverages on board?

Answer
Alcohol is permitted on board. However, any fragile items (including alcoholic beverages) must be hand-carried on board in the carry-on of an adult Guest – age 21 or older (dimensions can't exceed 22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep).

Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.

Guests who arrive in the dining room, including Palo and Remy, with a bottle of champagne or wine will be charged a corking fee of $20.00 per bottle.

Please be advised: Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including beverages) from checked luggage. In such cases, items will be stored and returned at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are considered fragile and have previously caused damage in checked luggage. All fragile items must be transported inside carry-on luggage.

Remember, whatever carryons you have, you will be lugging them around with you until the rooms are ready (usually about 1:30, but can be later).

Water is really the major thing that I try to bring on board. The water on the ship is fine, I just like certain brands of water....and YES they taste different

Not sure if it is every cruise - probably is - but on Formal night, the captain hosted free drinks - beer, wine, and I think champagne. It is only what was tray passed, but it was no limit. DH grabbed a couple of wine glasses just as we went in for dinner.

We had picked up a bottle of rum on our grocery stop before the cruise to save a bit of money. We only drank about a third of it, but it was a really good Jamaicaan rum, so we gave it to our servers (we asked them first, because we didn't want them put on the spot) who were from there.
