Drinking.

Yeah, a lot of other things are common amond american teens but that doesn't make it right.

Drinking underage is illegal. Period.

I completely agree!

I just want to shake alcoholics and underage drinkers.

Eh, maybe I'm biased because my parents don't drink at all and I'm not really around a lot of people who drink.

First thing I bolded, you are exactly right.

Second thing, I only live with my mom but she does not drink. I think that has had a big influence on me as well so I might be biased too. Oh well.

Drinking isn't just for people with substance abuse problems.
However wrong some of you may think it is, drinking among American teens is generally a social activity.

No, I'm not saying drink to fit in.
I'm just saying, not everyone who drinks "must have serious problems"

No, not everyone who drinks has serious problems but it can lead to serious problems.

I'm not perfect...I break the law occasionally by going over the speed limit on the high way to pass somebody up or keep up with traffic, but drinking is something I think is just wrong to do underage. And it isn't just "wrong" because we think it is, it's wrong because it can lead to problems and the fact that it is ILLEGAL. If a lot of people were killing people and it was a "common social activity" would that make it right? No!

Yeah, but that wasn't the point I was trying to make.
Just because someone socially drinks doesn't mean they're an alcoholic, will ever become one, or will have any liver disease.
That's the thing I was trying to address.
Some people on here make it seem like if you have some beer at a party, you're ruining your life and you'll develop alchoholism, but it doesn't work that way.

Personally, as a person who, during high school, had a looottt to drink, I would definitely take back what I did. I think it was stupid, and I think a lot of people who did/do the same during high school will feel the same in the aftermath.

I am in agreement that underage drinking is illegal in every single circumstance. If your blood alcohol level is above .01, you are breaking the law if you're under the age 21 in the United States. I also think that underage drinking can be wrong in many instances, and though it doesn't always make you a substance abuser, it can lead to other things such that deal with your inhibitions being limited. I know during high school, a lot of rapes, unwanted pregnancies, and drunk driving wouldn't have happened if the people involved would've been sober.

amen. couldnt say it better myself. I admit that issuses can arise when drinking (and they have) but it can be done safely without any harm to ureself or anyone arround you

no i dont have any freinds that drink, but i have drank before and i regret it alot.
i have had mikes hard, coors light, and spiked orange juice.
i regret drinking alot.

What about if you're drinking and you decide that your amount isn't going to harm you so you push it up.
And you keep pushing it up. Problems arise that way. And when your problems spiral up, you'll begin to spiral down.
You need to take control of your life and know what's good for you and what's not.
Drinking is not good for you.

then ure retarted and u should kniw your limits. that is how things happen but fortunatly most people know themselves way enough 2 not do that

The point is that a majority of high schoolers aren't drinking in safe situations. More than likely, it's at some party that someone is hosting, and there is no parental supervision. I've never gone to a party where someone hasn't been passed out in the bathroom and won't wake up. People at the party usually just laugh and leave him/her in there. That's why I don't go to parties period anymore. A high school party is not a safe environment, and most kids don't just sit at home by themselves, drinking a beer or a glass of wine.

Moderation is key with alcohol, and most teenagers don't do that at parties. At least not here.

And no, most teenagers don't know their limit. That's why MANY kids are like, "OMGZ I WAS SO DRUNK I DON'T REMEMBER ANYTHING."

My first comment was towards the OP's friend. She says they drink a lot, and have no ambition or will to ever stop. They are going to have problems in life.

14-15-16 year olds are not responsible enough or have enough self control to drink alcohol. It always starts with one sip, and that didn't do anything. So they take another sip, and another, and another. And then they have that whole "the rules don't apply to me" sense. And they think they can drive just fine.

No, you're 'retarted' if you think that. Once you have a drink, your mind isn't working properly. Your judgement is impaired. You THINK a couple more drinks won't do any harm.

All I'm saying is, if you're going to purposely break the law. Have enough sense to keep it to yourself.

welll ok i really dont know how it is at crazy parties cause i live in the city and any party gets killed by the cops b4 it starts.

Okay, I simply have to stop now or I'll get points. And I haven't gotten any points for quite a few months, I want to keep it that way.

and i never said i was breaking the law. i may have been in greece where the drinking age is 14

Drinking age in Greece is 17. You can't buy alcohol before then. And it's illegal to have been caught drunk if you are under 17 and drink there. They say that if it's civilized, as in a drink for the house or celebration which does happen often, then it's fine. But when civilized it is limited to a very small consumption.

I honestly don't know what to say to some of you.

Wow. Well, to add my thoughts, none of my friends drink now. My friend Marissa has a lot of friends who drink, and some of them are my friends too (they're in our theatre company). They were all at a party, I wasn't there but Marissa was, and someone started pulling beer out of a bag. No one ended up drinking, because someone pointed out that the host's mom was upstairs sleeping, but I think that would be a really creepy situation to be in. I don't give into peer pressure...but I know that in certain situations a couple of my friends might. And I have other bad factors on my side. I CAN'T drink, especially now, because for one thing, my dad is a recovering alcoholic, which can be genetic, so if I drink when I'm older, I still have to be extremely careful. Another thing is, I'm on a certain type of medication where drinking while taking the medicine could kill me or just mess me up. I don't want to go there. I'm pretty sure I'll be off that stuff when I'm 21, but I'm just giving an example of someone who really can't give in to this pressure, or it can be harmful. I look up to my cousin when it comes to drinking. She's 25, and her first drink was on her 21st birthday. She prevented a lot of bad things from happening to her by making that choice.

And it is sad that people will do anything just to be liked by others their age.
What about the little brother or sister to that kid who comes home drunk? What do they have to look up upon to this person?
What about the parents.
They'll think..what did they do wrong?
The older sibling who would think that her sibling was different. A lot different as a kid.
But it's nobody's fault but the teen.
And it affects everybody around that teen.
