Drinking while walking/in lines - to clarify, not to argue

I am absolutely not arguing about park policies here. Just a question for our upcoming summer trip. Of course we expect it to be hot! Trying to prepare because we have a good-sized family group with all ages and a range of health and other conditions. I read eating and drinking are not allowed unless you are stationary. So no walking and drinking with a straw slipped under a mask, or the same while in line? Or is it yes to one and no to the other? I am assuming no to both, even if your mask stays on. If so, of course we have zero problem with that and will happily sit off to the side and cool off with some water instead, but wanted to double check in case a quick sip with a straw is allowed (for example in the lines that are super long and outside).

Last summer we took sips of water in lines, both indoors and outdoors, when the lines were non-moving. Mask was pulled down and immediately pulled back up after the water sips. We plan to do the same thing again this summer.

If you're actively drinking you won't have a problem, the issues come from people who hold a drink and intermittently take sips with their mask down.

I think it’s technically not allowed. We didn’t eat or drink in line, but I did see others do it. I saw a family eating dole whips outside in the Jungle Cruise line, and a CM was right there talking to them. I think they had to be finished before they got inside the queue. So I don’t think it’s always being enforced. Maybe Disney will relax the rules. But until it’s official, I won’t attempt it. We always found a place off the path to sit and eat/drink.

We were just there this past weekend and noticed many attractions with notifications that there was to be no eating or drinking beyond that point in line. That lead me to believe that it was permitted while in an outdoor portion of the line as long as physical distancing was being adhered to.

Yes, we saw lots of those signs too and it was always right before you'd enter the inside or what used to be the real part of the line

They made a group of 20 somethings get out of Navii line with their cups of beer and drink it before they could get back in line. I think they were walking the queue without their masks on though.

That is interesting. And presumably they weren't drinking the beer in the cups with straws? Although that would be a sight. I was just thinking that if you had a straw you could tuck it under your mask so there would be no need to remove it for your beverage of choice.

That does sort of sound like they are okay with people drinking in the lines in the outdoor part as long as you are physically distanced.

I had definitely read that if you are removing your mask temporarily to eat you have to be distanced and stationary, but wasn't sure if you could drink through a straw with the mask still on while walking or in line. The mask stays, that way, so not sure if that addresses the concern?

You must be stationary and off to the side when drinking. Tucking a straw under your mask while moving is not permitted.

Yes same here. We did it last October and we're going in another month and will do the same. Our water bottles have the sipper top so the mask isn't even down for 5-10 seconds.

If you are on your 6 ft. marker and the person behind you is on theirs and you are standing still, according to the rules then you can take a sip of your drink. You can not take a sip of your drink while you are moving, straw or no straw. There is a sign at a certain point in all the lines that says no eating or drinking beyond this point and if you have a cup of something they will most likely make you throw it away. If you have a bottle of something, they will not. I was there mid-April and had a bottle of water and would lower my mask to take a sip while in line when I was standing still on my marker. I always turned away from everyone else in line while my mask was down for the 2 seconds it would take me to sip and pull my mask up. The water bottle stayed in my hand on all rides but the cap was always on it unless I was still and sipping. The tricky part of that is making sure the people behind you stay a reasonable distance if they can't manage the concept of the line markers. If they were right up on me, I would not pull my mask down to sip, if they were about 3 or 4 feet behind me between my line and theirs, I would turn away and take a sip. Fantasy Land in MK and Toy Story Land in HS had the worst offenders of line creep that I saw.

I wouldn't consider standing in line and taking a step every couple minutes "walking".

This seems so contradictory in a way - it is fine if you are in a line as long as you are still outside but distanced, but not if you are walking even if your mask is on. I get it though. It is hard to come up with blanket rules. Thanks for the feedback!

If you are pulling your mask away enough to get a straw up there, it's not on properly and you need to be stationary and distanced while you are doing it. SInce the queues are moving much more quickly without FP+, it's not a long time to go without drinking water, is it?

I had just read that there are still lines over an hour that are significantly out in the sun, like Slinky Dog. Certainly we can manage the walk ons and shorter lines. Either way, we will be fine. I just wanted to figure out what the parameters are.

We were there in October and March and took drinks of water or pop or whatever from bottles while standing stationary in lines that were outdoors.

I know the “letter of the law” is zero drinking or eating in line. The spirit is to prevent people from having full-on meals or taking slow slips from an open cup while keeping your mask off. I cannot see a CM yelling at anyone who takes a drink of water as they stand in line at Slinky Dog, assuming they have not been taking advantage.
