Do you drink the water in Florida or only drink bottled water? What about ice in drinks/ice dispensers. Are these OK or will you get a gippy tummy??

the water is safe to drink although it doesnt taste that nice.. we buy bottled water for the parks

We stay in villa with fridge so we buy bottled and freeze them to take out with us during the day so they defrost slowly and stay cold, but we fill the kettle with tap water.
It's never really occured to me to do anything different:confused3
The water in the drinking fountains in the parks tastes treated so I don't drink too much of it but I don't think it's ever done any of us any harm.

We've drunk from the water fountains on all of our 3 trips with no ill effect. We found the fountains in the shade had cooler water which reduced the bad tase.

I bought a brita sports bottle with an integral filter for our 2005 trip. It was really good but they don't make it or the filters any more.

We usually take a couple of frozen bottles of water in with us then refill when half empty, can keep very cold most of day.
There are 1 or 2 fountains in each park that are better than others, for eg the one near First aid in Magic Kingdom we have always found to be very cold and just like drinking water from the tap at home. Most are rubbish but we use the good ones.

We drink the water. It's safe to drink. :thumbsup2 No stomachaches but it does have a chlorine-y taste. We've gone when it's been HOT and there are only so many $3.00 waters for a group of 5 that you can buy.

My tip -- any counter service will give you a large ice water for the asking. We did that several times. Those big cups of cold water were a lifesaver. Sometimes they tasted better than tap too as I think some of drink dispensers filter it.

It is also worthwhile to bring along those little packets to mix with the water to make a single serving of lemonade or other drink. This masks the chlorine taste.

Pay for water  .. not a chance. We take bottles into the park and refill at the water fountains. I might treat the kids to a bottle of Sprite if i'm feeling generous :rotfl:

So true :thumbsup2 and what with the eco issue of buying bottled water frequently for everybody in your group it's sensible to top up your bottles like Wayne says - that's what we do.

Nick, you have been reading too many of my posts, thats something I could have posted.:rotfl:

Someone, I can't remember who, passed on a great tip which has saved us hundreds of dollars and loads of hassle over the years.

In all the parks, the cafes and restaurants give out free beakers of iced water. No strings attached, free HUGE beakers, as many as you want.

You don't even need to queue up, simply politely make your way past those queueing to buy meals, and ask nicely at the counter.

The water is usually pretty chlorine-free, as it comes filtered out of the same machine that makes up the sodas. If the taste doesn't suit you, then buy sachets of sugar-free Crystal Lite from any supermarket or pharmacy, many flavours available.

When your thirst is slaked, chuck the beaker in the bin, and nothing to lug around.

Marvellous! Hassle free holidays, just the job

we buy bottled water from walmart and put it in our villa fridge then top up our smaller bottles for the parks and maybe buy the kids bottles of pop if we run out during the day

i havent had any problems with the water apart from a few places it taste yuck! also some of the fizzy drinks from the drinks fountains taste yucky too. you get used to it. would rather drink it than buy water. :)

I was in New Zealand last year and came across them in a store, so bought 3 for the family and a bundle of spare filters. They appear to still be available on the Brita Australia website too, so it may be possible to get them via ebay or someone that lives in a region that still has them.

Getting cups of water from the CS places is a good idea and one that we've done.

Thanks gbrchill, I contacted Brita back in 2005 and they said that the bottles had been on sale as a 2004 Olympic year promotion. They were always a product for the Australian market. If I'd known that I would have stocked up on filters when I bought the bottles.

I've seen the cartridges for sale on e-bay but I'm a little paranoid to buy this sort of product from an unknown source.

I have one filter left so I'm hoping that will be enough for next year's trip.

hi

we went to walmart got loads of bottled water and a cheap styrofoam cool box, filled it with ice from the free ice dispenser around the corner from our room, it kept everything really cool and we left it in the boot of the car.

I wonder if there are any DISers from Australia or New Zealand that could get some for you. It may be worth asking elsewhere on the DIS.
