So my 21st birthday is in August and my roommate has never been to Disney ever! We have been friends since the first day freshman year in college, and although we go to school only an hour away from The World, she has still never experienced Disney (not acceptable). So we were thinking about going to Disney the weekend after my 21st to drink around the world. I was wondering if anyone has done this before. If you have let me know how it turned out for you and how expensive it was, since we are in college we don't have a ton of money. We are going to be staying on property for one night so we don't have to worry about driving(just getting to the bus).

It's pricey to do this. Really pricey. I only had two drinks in WS (a mango margarita in Mexico from the stand, and a frozen thing from Morocco) and I spent at least 18 bucks. If you're going to do this, you might skip Morocco... I didn't really like the drink I had, but I'm only a frozen drinks kind of girl. I don't like beer. If you end up drinking in Mexico, actually try the Cava del Tequila. Don't wimp out like me and just get one from the stand.

It can definitely be $7-10 per country and end up being a $100 day potentially. It also can definitely be a lot of fun, but you have to know how to pace yourself through the day.

You and your friend could always split the drinks in each country. Less of a burden on your wallet and your liver! Haha

We do this everytime we go to EPCOT, and it is really expensive, PLUS they jip you on shots, in Germany you can get shots of Jager, BUT they dont even fill the shot up to the top, and it is like $11 a shot, for Jager:confused3, it is fun though, and it is a good way to get people excited about going to Disney parks, i have turned at least 10 people into fans after they joined me on the Around the World Drinking:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Best plan ever.

Hot tip: the grey goose lemon slushies in France are delicious. I should have gotten one of those when I wanted to drink in Epcot.

My fiance & I are planning on doing this for our honeymoon, and since we would have just graduated from college, we're definitely on a budget. To get an estimate of the cost, we used both the DIS dining info as well as All Ears Restaurants.

Keep in mind that these prices may not be totally accurate, but at least it can give you some sort of estimate. We're planning on splitting drinks as well, so we can try more without drinking too much.

I did this a couple times after graduating college. The first time my dad and I did it together, which was a truly awesome experience. There were three or four that we split, and we did it over a period of about 5 hours, so there were no issues.

This past year on a trip with some college friends I did it again, but solo this time, and in less time. I started around 4 and finished at about 8. Illuminations was getting started, and I made the decision that I would watch that as I walked out of EPCOT via the International Gateway, and caught a boat to go see the 9:00 Illuminations show. I remember getting on the boat, and my head feeling really good against the cold glass.

I also remember stopping at the Boardwalk... and the Yacht and Beach Club... and the Swan and Dolphin... and then I started to feel sick.

I also felt like we had been at Swan and Dolphin for an inordinately long time, so I decided to exit and catch a cab back to the All Star Movies where we were staying. I lurched toward the front of the boat, where the captain who had been apparently watching me for some time in my stupor asked nicely if I was leaving them for the night. I responded with 'Yeah... Where are we?' to which he replied 'Disney's Hollywood Studios'.

'Jackpot.' I said. I meandered my way in to the Fantasmic show and sat down in the very back row just in time for the show, which I saw about 20 minutes of before looking around and deciding being on a bus with all these people would not be a great idea. So I lurched once more towards what I thought was the exit, only to notice two cast members leaving behind me. They asked if I knew where I was going and if I was lost.

'I'm just trying to leave.'

'Ok, then you're lost. Follow us.'

They were very nice. Turns out they work at AK but pick up extra Fantasmic shows for more money. They asked me what I had been up to and I explained the whole ordeal. They laughed and asked me to invite them next time. Apparently I was somewhere backstage I should not have been, but I don't remember seeing anything really so I have no great stories of behind the scenes stuff.

I got on to a half filled bus and sat in a corner by myself, euphoric when I reached the hotel, where I admonished my friends for ever allowing me to be alone in the state I was in. They just laughed and took some embarrassing pictures of me. All's fair I suppose.

It was a great night. I would highly recommend it. :)

One tip... If you're going to have a margarita in Mexico (which you have to do if you are doing this seriously) then START there. Do not finish there. It will ruin you, if it's the last thing you drink. And make sure you have a big meal in your stomach. And try to avoid the summer.

Ok that was three tips.

Bye now.

I have never gone to Disney but I wish I could go in the near future and I hope the MP can go and tell me your experience after come back.

That is an amazing story! lol Unfortunately my birthday is in the middle of August so I will be going during the summer, but I don't think it will effect me too much. And I will make sure my roommate and I do not get separated and start in Mexico.

She is very skeptical of going to Disney and she's not a HUGE drinker, but I think it will get her away from the whole "Disney's for children" mentality.

I think that the splitting drinks thing sounds like a good idea. Though there may be more than just the two of us going, but it will definitely be us two. But every time I tell someone I am going to go drinking around the world for my birthday, they end up inviting themselves along lol.

Thanks for the advice and info(and stories!). This made me even more excited. If anyone else has any stories from drinking around the world please share them! And once I experience it myself, I will definitely share my story!

yeah good idea - and then try and see how many countries you can hit up. Go for it and let us know! :cutie:

That story happened in July ;)

I had a friend who was also not a big drinker, and he just took a couple sips off of whatever I had. I think I had one margarita, three slushies, and seven beers in my 11 country tour.

what do you think the most expensive drink is? And how likely do you think it would be to get discounted/free drinks for my birthday???? lol (maybe if I wear a short skirt?)

LOL...nice thoughts but..Disney doesn't give discounts on booze and certainly doesn't give any away for free. maybe if it's a part of a "magical moment"...but highly unlikely.

21st Birthdays are magical moments! ;)

I'd agree it's highly unlikely. Based on the type of drink, I think mine ranged from $7 for the beers to $9 or $10 for the slush and margarita.

You should get your friends to buy you drinks for your birthday. Nobody should have to pay for their own drinks on their 21st! ;)

I'm driving down Christmas night and staying for a week... and I definitely plan to drink around the world this trip (convincing my mom to do it too haha) So I'll let u know how it goes and if I remember, try to list a range of prices for each country :)

That would be helpful thanks!

I just found out my entire family is going to be at Disney for my birthday this year so maybe they will each take turns buying me a drink for each country lol. probably not going to happen but it's a nice thought. I'm so excited for this trip!

Drinking around the world is so much fun with friends!

Depending on what you get to drink, it averages around $90-$100+. As it turned out, when I drank around the world, I found myself with an unexpected budget - so I skipped out on a couple countries that didn't appeal to me (Norway, for example). You can definitely budget this by choosing which countries you want to drink at and which you don't. I drank at 7 countries and by the end of the night, I felt pretty good lol. You don't need every country ;)

Mexico is a lot of fun. I recommend starting here to get going. Visit the tequila bar!! SO MUCH FUN! My friends and I are all very chatty and the bartenders definitely appreciated us and our questions about tequila. Before I left the bar, I had the bartenders telling me all their favorite types of tequila and which ones I should be trying.

If you don't want to do this, I recommend the lime and strawberry margarita at the margarita vendor. Yumm!!

Here are the drinks I got at each country I visited:

Mexico - Lime/Strawberry Margarita
(Skipped Norway but you can get Bailey's here)
China - Green Tea Plumb Slush (I do NOT recommend this. It was nasty lol)
(Skipped Germany because I knew I'd be getting beer in America)
Italy - Cabernet Sauvignon
America - Samuel Adams (yummm)
(Skipped Japan but I hear the sake is good here)
Morroco - Daiquiri (SOOOO GOOD!! Best daiquiri I've ever hard. They use orange blossom water which is amazing. Also, the only place in Disney you can buy a daiquiri)
France - Pomegranate champagne (definitely recommend)
United Kingdom - Welsh Dragon (by the time I got here, I was feeling the other countries lol. I loved the Welsh Dragon but when I came back in a much clearer state of mind, it was only okay. I recommend the ales here.)

I would say the most expensive country was either Mexico or Morroco. But I wouldn't skip these countries. Aside from France (I love me some pomegranate champagne haha) they were my favorites. The cheapest was beer. Also, the UK is a full bar so you can pretty much order anything you want there. My favorite drink is the Magical Star Cocktail but you can order that anywhere in Disney that serves alcohol lol.

Have fun!! :)
