Drinking Around the World -- a logistical question.

This year I am turning 25, a rather anti-climatic birthday itself but I've decided to make it worth my while. For my quarter-century birthday my boyfriend and I are planning to partake in the infamous Drinking Around the World to celebrate. In order to successfully accomplish our mission and not die (or be arrested by Disney's secret police) we are planning to start asap and space our drinks out throughout the entire day up until park close. On most days World Showcase opens at 11, but my question is do they start serving alcohol at this time too? I know it sounds a little bad to want to start drinking in the a.m. but I only plan to do this once in my life, it is my birthday after all, and, like I said before, I do not want to die.

Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated!!!

Yes. They do start serving at 11:00.

I have three suggestions to make (for your health and safety)

1. Split all the drinks with your BF.
2. Drink lots of water as alcohol tends to dehydrate you.
3. Eat before you start, and have snacks during the day.

Those are such great suggestions! So great that we already were planing to do them all :)

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Wow, you are really adventurous! Have fun on your quarter century B-day!

BTW, I would spend the day using the restrooms around the world if I tried this! LOL :rotfl:

CF has given some good suggestions, but I'd like to add one - pace yourself. Keep in mind that there are 11 countries so thats a lot of alcohol to consume. Probably too much to reasonably do in just a couple of hours. Oh, and I hope you either have a designated driver or will be relying on Disney transportation.

Otherwise, have a great birthday! :cake:

My daughter & I did this in December but we spread it over two days. The best deal is to get the wine walk in France, Italy or Germany for $20
you get in each country 2 - 2oz pours of their wines and you knock out three countries for $20:cool1:

My family and I have done it many times (my adult kids think it's the best reason to go to WDW). My best advice is to stay out of the Tequila Cave in Mexico. The drinks are so good compared to the rest of the world, you won't want to leave.

And bring a lot of money.

I knew that the first time I went to La Cava del Tequila. :rotfl2:
They might want to start in Canada and end up in Mexico, just to be "safe". ;)

The voice of experience. :lmao:

Haven't done it since 2003, but we did it for many years. My suggestions are:

1. Start at 11 am
2. Start in France - you can get a quick breakfast and you'll end up at Rose & Crown (which is much more fun in the evenings).
3. Snack about every other country.
4. Bring enough cash - just in case some place doesn't take your card of is malfunctioning.
5. Get a passport and have it signed by a CM from each country and record what national drink you have.
6. Get a picture in every country with the CM who signs your passport book.
7. Have fun and make sure you have a way to get back to your resort without annoying bus loads of people. I suggest staying in an Epcot Resort.

I love drinking around the world, my wife and I have done it many times. Have fun!

My wife and I would love to do this. Too bad we are traveling with a 5 and 9 year old. :(

My DH did this on our last trip. Space your drinks throughout the day, drink lots of water, eat food along with your drinks. We had an early lunch at Coral Reef, and he started after that. We stayed for EMH that evening (just to give you a gauge on time). The only place he did not drink was the US pavilion (we live about an hour from Busch Gardens and the Busch plant; he can get a Bud any time at home), and when we made it back around to the Canadian pavilion the place where they were selling beer was closed.

The girl who sold us fish and chips in England had a great laugh at DH's expense; he thinks everyone is grand if he has had a few.

I am not a drinker, but I think it could be easily done if splitting the drinks. (imo the plum wine in China is nasty; DH convinced me to try it)

DH & I have an "adults only" trip planned for my 50th soon......I think we will try this. Pacing for me may have to be over 2 days though!

Tell your husband he needs to go back to complete his quest. They carry Sam Adams at the US pavilion. There's usually one of Sam's specialty brews on tap there. :drinking:

Wow! Congrats.....we just celebrated our 25th doing the same....looking forward to many more years...Enjoy and God Bless :lovestruc

I did this last May while my girlfriend watched me and complained it was too hot. This brings me to tip #1 don't try to do it all in one day if it is really hot out. It was well into the 90's when I did it and I was really feeling the heat by the time I hit Italy (started in Mexico). If it is in the 90's I would suggest spreading it over 2 days.

Also, beer may be the less expensive route overall, but it is also the heavier route. Drink wine/mixed drinks as much as you can and drink beer at just a few countries (I think the Outpost, USA and Canada only serve beer, I could be wrong but I don't remember seeing much other alcohol options.).

Don't push yourself too hard. Between the heat, the walking and the alcohol mixing, once you think you see "the wall", stop. Don't wait until you hit "the wall".

Most importantly, have fun! :thumbsup2
